Initialization

When the program first starts, it goes through the following procedures.

  • Check if ./settings.json exists. If not, then assume this is the first startup, and notify the user that it will automatically download the following dependencies: yt-dlp (for downloading), ffmpeg (for conversion), and deno (for validation). This may take some time, but it is only done once.
  • If the option "Update at Startup" is enabled (which it is by default), or YT-DLP is not found, the latest YT-DLP will be downloaded.
  • The current version of YT-DLP will be listed in the Updater tab.
  • The channel list in the Downloader > Download by Channel tab and Updater tab will be populated with channels specified in ./settings.json. By default, these are the official Vinesauce YouTube channels. More can be added by editing ./settings.json.
  • The video list in the Downloader > Download by Channel tab will be populated with a list of videos from the currently selected channel. By default, this will be the first channel listed in ./settings.json. It is recommended to put the channel with the least amount of videos first to reduce wait time at startup, since listing all the videos takes awhile.
    • Note that the list of videos per channel are not automatically updated. It may be out of date. Use the Updater tab to download a new list of videos for each channel as needed.
