5. Settings Tab

The Settings Tab contains most of the common configurable options for YT-DLP. Many are self-explanatory, but I will break them down in detail here.

Output Directory

This is the path to the folder where videos will be downloaded to.

  • By default, it is ./Output/, meaning a folder named "Output" will be created in the YTVideoListUpdater folder when downloading if one doesn't already exist.
  • You can change this to your preferred download destination by clicking the "..." buton.

Title Format

This is the format of the downloaded video filename.

  • By default, this is %(title)s.%(ext)s, meaning a video may be downloaded as "VideoTitle.mp4".
  • See this page for a list of additional operators you can customize the filename with (such as upload date, playlist index).
    • Note that changing this may affect the program's ability to determine which downloaded videos exist in your downloads directory when using Tools > Check Missing Videos. I may fix this in the future.

YT-DLP Path

This is the path to yt-dlp.exe. You probably don't need to change this, since the program downloads YT-DLP to the program's root folder by default.

ffmpeg Path

This is the path to ffmpeg.exe. You probably don't need to change this, since the program downloads ffmpeg to the program's root folder by default.

Cookies from Browser

By default, "None" is selected. However, if you encounter issues downloading videos due to age restriction or rate limits, it may be worth seeing if it helps to use cookies from your browser.

  • At this time, only Firefox is supported. Even if you don't use Firefox, all you have to do is download it and sign into YouTube.
  • Selecting a browser that you don't currently have installed may prevent downloads from succeeding.
  • It's recommended to log into a burner account that you don't use for your main/actual YouTube channels, to prevent retaliation for automated usage.
  • It's recommended to also use a VPN such as Mullvad to avoid rate limits, IP bans etc.

"Add Metadata" checkbox

If enabled, metadata about the video (such as its url, upload date, and description) will be added to the video file.

"Write Thumbnail" checkbox

If enabled, video thumbnails will be downloaded alongside the video.

"Write Info Json" checkbox

If enabled, a .json that includes video metadata will be downloaded alongside the video.

"Write Description" checkbox

If enabled, a .description file that includes the video description text will be downloaded alongside the video.

"Write Comments" checkbox

If enabled, a file that includes the video's comments will be downloaded alongside the video.

  • This may take awhile if there are a lot of comments.

"Write Subtitles" checkbox

If enabled, manual subtitles will be downloaded along with the video.

"Write Auto-Subtitles" checkbox

If enabled, automatic (YouTube-transcribed) subtitles will be downloaded along with the video.

"Embed Subtitles" checkbox

If enabled, subtitles will be embedded into the video format, if possible.

"Use MP4 Format" checkbox

If enabled, the video will attempt to be downloaded in (or converted to) .mp4 format, instead of whatever other format it downloads in by default (i.e. mkv)

"Convert to MP3" checkbox

If enabled, the video will be converted to .MP3 after being downloaded, in case you only want the audio.

Rate Limit Durations

  • Sleep Requests: Number of seconds to sleep between requests during data extraction (default: 3)
  • Sleep Interval: Number of seconds to sleep before each download. This is the minimum time to sleep when used along with --max-sleep-interval.
  • Max Sleep Interval: Maximum number of seconds to sleep. Can only e used along with --min-sleep-interval.

"Use Rate Limit Preventions" checkbox

If enabled, rate limit durations will be used when downloading.

  • Disable to download faster, but at the risk of triggering rate limits or IP bans more easily.

"Additional Commandline Options" textbox

Enter any additional commandline options that you want to use here.

  • Each option and value must be listed on a new line. For instance: --verbose --convert-subs ass --sub-langs all
  • By default, only --verbose is listed, which allows you to see the full details of the YT-DLP output log for troubleshooting purposes.
