This is a total rewrite of the program from the ground up. Essentially everything has changed from the prior version, so the changelog may not be conclusive.
As in prior changelogs, changes marked with (New) are distinct new features to the program from the Nicalis animation editor.
Program is now more distinctly "C++"; classes with methods contained in namespaces preferred over functions operating on structs.
More straightforward use of Dear ImGui's functions rather than employing a catch-all "ImguiItem" wrapper.
GUI designed less around specific pixel values and more general units.
SDL and MSVC runtime, and resources are now statically linked within the executable; only the executable is shipped.
Features
General
With the total rewrite, the user interface has been completely redesigned.
With added "Display Scale" setting, which changes font scale globally, higher resolutions are now generally supported. This coincides with other changes meant to accomodate larger resolutions.
Dear ImGui's in-built font, used for the program before, has now been replaced with Noto Sans.
Italics, bold, and bold/italics variants will appear in the approrpriate places.
SVG icons, some custom, most borrowed from the Remix Icons collection, have replaced their equivalent custom raster icons of before. (Sorry, the program's soulless now!)
Generally, popups will now scale to the viewport of the program rather than a specific pixel size.
Program will now use a socket to make sure there's only one instance running at a time. Opened documents will now always use the first version.
If no settings are found and the user is on a 4k monitor, the program will try to set UI scale size.
File
Window will flash when new documents are opened.
There's an overwrite popup when saving now.
(New) The overwrite popup appearing can be toggled in Settings.
Taskbar
Taskbar redesigned; uses ImGui::MenuBar.
Now reincludes "Window" drop-down from Nicalis editor; open menu to toggle on/off windows (no undocking off the main program window, though.)
(New) A number of settings moved to the "Configure" dropdown. Opens a popup with "Display" and "Shortcuts" tabs.
(New) In the "Display" tab, change Display Scale and Vsync.
(New) Shortcut option has been moved to "Shortcuts" tab.
(New) Option for keyboard repeat/delay rate. This is used for detecting multiple key presses. I would prefer if this was just how the OS handles it but apparently that's not easy
Added "Help", with "About" item. Don't click on it, worst mistake of your life.
Change All Frame Properties
This has been removed from taskbar! Instead, a similar feature will appear in Frame Properties when selecting multiple frames.
Render Animation
"Use Bounds", etc. changed to "Raw". "Raw" just renders straight the animation, to its original size.
(New) Added Custom Range, for setting a specific animation render range.
(New) "To Selected Frames" button, for matching Custom Range
(New) Added "Spritesheet" option for rendering all frames to a spritesheet. You can change rows/columns. There's a "Set Recommended" button that will give you the most compact spritesheet; this is assumed by default
Render popup will set defaults when opened; recommended range, rows/columns, etc.
(New) Documents
The program now supports having multiple documents open at once. You can now edit multiple .anm2 files in a single instance of the program.
Documents display via ImGui tabs; slide to move around, close, etc.
Documents will individually track save progress; documents that are unsaved from their last changed version will have a "Not Saved" in their title and a dot.
Closing an unsaved document will prompt the user if they want to save or not.
Some settings will be per-document (i.e., preview/editor pan/zoom, selections, etc.).
(New) Sounds
Newish, but "Use Sound" has been expanded upon.
There's a new window, Sounds, which you can load in sounds.
Bind a sound to a trigger by clicking upon it. When it plays in the animation, the respective sound will go off.
You can also click the sound in the Sounds window to preview it.
Note: this will only serialize to the anm2 file when there are sounds, if not the format will be identical to
Animation Preview (Window)
(New) Zooming will now be focused on the cursor, when using the mouse; will zoom in on center when using keys.
Children (boxes on top) will now scale to the size of the window.
Better organized checkboxes in the "Helpers" child (one with all the checkboxes).
Shuffled some elements around.
Removed "Triggers" checkbox; toggling Triggers visibility in Timeline will achieve the same effect.
Spritesheet Editor (Window)
(New) Zooming will now be focused on the cursor, when using the mouse; will zoom in on center of the texture when using keys.
Drawing will now not skip over pixels.
Children (boxes on top) will now scale to the size of the window.
Color picker pulls from the texture, rather than the framebuffer.
Animations (Window)
(New) Added typical file explorer mutli-select shortcuts for spritesheets (Ctrl+Shift+A -> select all, Escape -> select none, Shift -> select range, Ctrl -> toggle, etc.)
(New) Hover over an animation for a detailed tooltip, showing its name and length.
Removed character designator for default animations.
Default animations will now be bolded; this feature replaces the "(*)" designator for default animations.
(New) "Referenced" animations (i.e., the one that's seen in the Animation Preview window), will now be italicized.
(New) Referenced default animations will be _bolded and italicized.
(New) Shortcut for merging; will quickly merge layers, using the last merge configuration. (default Ctrl+E)
(New) Shortcut for quickly adding animations (default Insert, when window is focused)
(New) Merge window will no longer feature the merge target, only the other animations.
Null icons (blue Zodiac-esque symbols) are now slightly transparent.
Removed icons next to text.
Spritesheets (Window)
(New) The spritesheet children (boxes) no longer have the checkbox. Selecting spritesheets for reloading/saving should now be more intuitive.
(New) Added typical file explorer mutli-select shortcuts for spritesheets (Ctrl+Shift+A -> select all, Escape -> select none, Shift -> select range, Ctrl -> toggle, etc.)
(New) Hover over a spritesheet for a detailed tooltip, showing a larger preview, its ID and size.
"Referenced" spritesheets (i.e., the one that's seen in the Spritesheet Editor window), will now be italicized.
(New) Shortcut for adding; (default Insert, when window is focused)
(New) Shortcut for removing unused; (default Delete, when window is focused)
Added dotted lines for the border and the crop rectangle.
Removed "Select All" and "Select None", given the more intuitive selecting system.
Removed icons next to text.
Onionskin (Window)
Widgets won't be disabled if "Enabled" is unchecked.
Timeline (Window)
Redesigned, in general.
(New) Frame multiselect! Wowie! Only works on the same item.
(New) Colors will dim when items or frames are marked as not visible.
(New) Added a little marker to hover over to give general hints about how to use the timeline.
(New) Will now display fully even when no animation is selected.
Moved "Icons" toggle to a new button with the Layer icon. Pressing this will toggle only Layers to be visible.
Toggling Triggers visibility will now toggle drawn text, instead of the Triggers checkbox in Animation Preview.
Removed playhead moving to selected frame. Instead, decoupled playhead time from what frame is shown.
Settings
Settings will now preserve additional values (windows being open/closed, etc.)
Frame Properties (Window)
Removed "Round" button (more trouble than it was worth.)
Bugfixes
Generally, as the program has been completely rewritten, any old bugs will have likely disappeared, but notable issues fixed will be mentioned. There's too much to mention, so treat this as a fresh release.
