First 0.1 beta

The public version line restarts at 0.1.0-beta1. Install this package manually
once when migrating from a 0.6 alpha client; its older update checker may not offer
a numerically lower version. DEB, RPM and Arch use epoch 1 so package managers
recognize the beta as an upgrade. Existing preferences and sync data are retained.
The previous GitHub release downloads are retired; Git history remains.

What's new

  • Google Takeout import in Photos: select an extracted export, review counts, then upload photos/videos with matching capture dates and location metadata. Duplicate checks, source/account validation and cancellation protect the import. Original files remain unchanged.
  • Clearer computer backup: a dedicated setup card explains two-way folder sync and separates this computer's configuration from saved computers. It is not a system-image backup.
  • Optional support: a discreet Support on Ko-fi link at the bottom of the sidebar opens the browser; no third-party widget is embedded.
  • Safe update restart: the built-in updater restores previously running sync/online-file services and relaunches the new application after installation. Active transfers and open files prevent unsafe handoffs; failed installs restore services.
  • RPM updates: verified package downloads and authorized installation now support Fedora (DNF5/DNF) and openSUSE (Zypper), alongside DEB. Existing RPM installations need one manual upgrade to beta 0.1 before using this flow.
  • English beta documentation, fresh light/dark previews from the release executable, file-manager integration previews, and updated strings in all 25 languages.

File-manager preview: actual Nautilus rendering with synthetic example files and offline-status fixtures; no personal files or live download are shown.

Downloads

  • DEB: amd64 and arm64.
  • RPM: x86_64 builds for Fedora and openSUSE.
  • Flatpak, Snap, AppImage and Arch package: x86_64.
  • AUR recipe archive: pinned DEB downloads for x86_64/aarch64; not an aur.archlinux.org listing.
  • SDK binaries/provenance, native build reports, required Qt/ICU sources, build/test evidence and SHA256 checksums are included.

Follow the installation instructions for the chosen format. Portable/sandboxed packages need the documented native host integration for file-manager actions and supported online placeholders. ARM64 uses an Ubuntu 24.04 / GLIBC 2.39 baseline; the native x86_64 frontend uses GLIBC 2.34, while AppImage targets Ubuntu 22.04+/GLIBC 2.35+. Immutable RPM systems use their system updater. Local RPM signature policies remain applicable.

Validation and limits

The release is published only after both native architecture jobs and all Linux package/runtime checks pass in GitHub Actions. BUILD_INFO.json and TEST_RESULTS.json record the exact commits, jobs and local checks; SHA256SUMS covers release assets. GUI previews use isolated synthetic English data from the actual release executable.

Takeout ZIP/TGZ parts must be extracted/merged first. Album reconstruction, comments and automatic background import resume are not included. SDK duplicate matching is name/content-based, not a global cross-name deduplicator. New translations outside German/English are machine-assisted drafts. No live-account Takeout upload or physical-machine RPM upgrade was performed for this release.

Independent beta software, not an official Proton product. Full Windows/macOS parity and every Linux desktop combination are not claimed. Keep an independent backup.
