v2.0.2 - New Feature: Aria-Hidden Attribute for Cover Blocks
Accessibility Improvement: Aria-Hidden Attribute for Cover Blocks
In this release, we've introduced an enhancement to the rendering of cover blocks. This improvement targets the accessibility of background images that don't have alt tags.
Previously, background images of cover blocks without alt tags were not hidden from screen readers. This could lead to confusion as these images are often decorative and not necessary for understanding the content.
The render_block method in the Aria_Attributes class has been updated to automatically add the aria-hidden="true" attribute to such images. Here's a brief overview of the changes:
- Added a step to parse the block content and find
imgelements withoutalttags. - Added a step to add the
aria-hidden="true"attribute to theseimgelements. - Updated the step that returns the modified block content to include these changes.
This enhancement ensures that screen readers correctly ignore decorative images, improving the accessibility of websites using our plugin.
v2.0.1 Bug Fix: Updater Directory Name
Bug Fix: Updater Directory Name
In this release, we've fixed a bug in the Updater class that was causing the downloaded directory to retain its original name when moved to the plugin directory.
Previously, when the Updater class downloaded a new version of the plugin, it would move the downloaded directory to the plugin directory but wouldn't change the directory's name. This could cause issues with plugin identification and activation.
The install_update method in the Updater class has been updated to correctly rename the downloaded directory to match the plugin name. Here's a brief overview of the changes:
- Added a step to get the correct directory name from the plugin directory path.
- Added a step to construct the correct path for the downloaded directory.
- Updated the step that moves the downloaded directory to also rename it to the correct directory name.
This bug fix ensures that the updated plugin is correctly named and located in the plugin directory, improving the reliability of the update process.
v2.0.0 Automatically add aria-hidden to image tags with empty alt
New Feature: Render Filters Class
In this release, we've added a new class, Render_Filters, to enhance the accessibility of image blocks in your WordPress site.
The Render_Filters class automatically adds the aria-hidden attribute to the HTML of any image block that has an empty alt attribute. This helps screen readers ignore these images, improving the browsing experience for users with visual impairments.
Here's a brief overview of the methods in the Render_Filters class:
__construct(): This method adds therender_blockfilter, which is used to modify the block's HTML.add_aria_label_to_empty_alt_tags(string $block_content, array $block): This method checks if the block is an image block and if thealtattribute is empty. If both conditions are met, it addsaria-hidden="true"to the<img>tag in the block's HTML.
This new feature is part of our ongoing commitment to making your WordPress site as accessible as possible. We hope it helps you serve your users better.
