Pasta Lite Git client 0.2.0 (alpha)

Pasta Lite is now called Pasta Lite Git client, and its side panels can be resized.

What's new

  • Resizable panels: drag the handle on the inner edge of the sidebar or the details panel to resize it, or focus the handle and use the arrow keys. Double-click the handle to reset a panel. Widths are kept across restarts.
  • New name: the app is now called Pasta Lite Git client in the Finder, the Dock, the window title and the app menu, so it is easier to find and clearly a git client.

Upgrading from 0.1.0

  • Your recent repositories, tabs, trusted repositories and logs are kept.
  • Quit Pasta Lite 0.1.0 before opening the new version. Only one copy runs at a time, so while 0.1.0 is open the new version just brings the old window forward.
  • The new version installs as Pasta Lite Git client.app next to the old Pasta Lite.app. Delete the old one from Applications after installing.

Pasta Lite 0.1.0 (alpha)

The first public release of Pasta Lite, a small desktop git client that puts the commit graph in the middle of the window. It runs your system git, so your SSH keys, credential helper and git config keep working. This is an early preview: expect rough edges, and please open an issue when something breaks.

Highlights

  • Graph first: a lane-based history of all branches, remotes, tags and stashes that loads as you scroll, with commit details and diffs.
  • Staging: stage, unstage or discard whole files, single hunks or selected lines. Discards are backed up and can be undone.
  • Everyday workflow: commit and amend, branches, fetch, pull and push (force-with-lease when needed), and stash.
  • Merge and rebase, including an interactive rebase editor with drag-to-reorder, plus conflict helpers.
  • Undo and redo for commits, checkouts, branch deletes and discards.
  • Worktrees and bare repositories, one repository per tab, and a quick repository picker (⌘P).
  • Safety: a trust prompt before opening a repository whose config or hooks would run commands, and sandboxed pages.

The app is signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so it opens like any other app. If macOS still refuses to open it, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.

Requirements

  • macOS 13 or newer.
  • git 2.51 or newer installed on your Mac. The git that comes with macOS is usually older, so install one with Homebrew: brew install git. Pasta Lite finds it even when you start the app from the Finder or the Dock, and tells you at startup if your git is too old.

Known limitations

  • No clone or init: open a repository that already exists.
  • No credential or passphrase prompts. Use an SSH agent or a credential helper for remotes that need authentication.
  • No cherry-pick, revert or reset, and no UI for creating or deleting tags.
  • No renaming branches, deleting remote branches or managing remotes.
  • No commit search, file history or blame.
  • Dark theme only, and no automatic updates.
  • Tested on macOS only. There are no Windows or Linux builds yet.
