Release list
ShowMe 0.1.0
The first release of ShowMe: search the files on your Linux desktop by what's in them, with Google DeepMind's EmbeddingGemma 2. A Rust port of DigUp by Abdur Rahim, made for Omarchy (Arch Linux + Hyprland).
Early. Used daily on one Omarchy 4 machine (Hyprland 0.56, RTX 3060 through Vulkan). Reports from other setups, AMD and Intel GPUs especially, are very welcome.
What's in it
- Photos and screenshots by what they show (and screenshots by their text, with Tesseract), PDFs page by page with your words marked, documents, recordings and videos at their moment, and code if you turn on code search
- Searches in 100+ languages: a search in Norwegian finds a photo or a note in English, and the other way around
- On-device: llama.cpp on Vulkan or the CPU, pdfium, ffmpeg. No account, no telemetry
- A GTK4 panel over your windows (
SUPER + D), a search field and a status widget in the Omarchy bar, or a Waybar module - Previews that play a video or recording from the moment that matched
- Settings with the folders to search, how far the first pass has come and the time left, pause (kept through a restart), and reading big folders in steps of 15 minutes to 2 hours
- A daemon as a systemd user service that keeps up as files come and go
Install
No AUR package yet: build it from source as the README shows. showme-panel --setup downloads the model (865 MB) and pdfium, and sets up the services, the key and the bar.
