Canvas launch fixes

Clicking APStudyCanvas now opens or focuses Canvas and displays the existing panel inside Canvas. The standalone workspace has been retired. Failed launches now show a useful toolbar message and local, redacted diagnostic details, while the old workspace links lead to an Open Canvas page.

Install or update

Brave, Chrome, and Edge Users: download APStudyCanvas-0.6.1-Beta-Chromium.zip. On Windows, use Extract All, then load the extracted folder containing manifest.json through Load unpacked with Developer mode enabled.

For an existing unpacked installation, replace the files in its original folder and click Reload on the extension to preserve its identity and saved data. Avoid leaving duplicate copies enabled. Confirm version 0.6.1, allow access to https://canvas.emory.edu/, and refresh Canvas. Disable BetterCampus while testing to avoid interference.

Firefox Users: the Firefox ZIP is an unsigned development build for Firefox 128 or newer.

New Features (All Free)

  • A full local Notes workspace (similar to Nest.APStudy's notes functionality) with rich text, lists, tables, code blocks, callouts, bookmarks, folding headings, folders, local media, page setup, printing, and export. Notes and attachments stay on your device.
  • An extension-data importer for copied Chrome, Edge, and Brave profiles, with adapters for CanvasRefined 7, BetterCanvas 5, and BetterCampus 9. Preview recognized data before import, choose replacements explicitly, and recover safely from interrupted imports.
  • A refined Planner with one aligned calendar surface, sticky weekday and all-day headers, calendar search and visibility controls, and a bounded details drawer that adapts to narrow screens.
  • Better task scheduling: create separate personal work blocks without changing the original Canvas deadline.
  • Improved Canvas notifications for announcements, published grade changes, and due-task reminders, with clearer account and permission states.
  • Smoother popup startup, route transitions, To-Do behavior and progress bar options, sidebar lifecycle handling, and Canvas reconnection behavior.

Install

Chromium (Chrome, Brave, or Edge)

  1. Download APStudyCanvas-0.6-Beta-Chromium.zip and extract it.
  2. Open your browser's extensions page and enable Developer mode.
  3. Choose Load unpacked and select the extracted folder.
  4. Refresh Canvas after loading the extension.

Firefox (128+)

  1. Download APStudyCanvas-0.6-Beta-Firefox.zip.
  2. Open about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox.
  3. Choose Load Temporary Add-on and select the ZIP (or manifest.json after extracting it).

The Firefox build is unsigned and intended for beta testing, so a temporary installation must be reloaded after Firefox restarts.

Beta notes

  • The extension is currently configured for Canvas (testing done on canvas.emory.edu) and Nest.APStudy.
  • Calendar features require a connected Nest.APStudy account and Google authorization. Google remains the supported calendar provider in this beta.
  • Notes and attachments are local to this browser profile. Sharing, collaboration, and server history require Nest and are not included in the local Notes workspace.
  • Extension-data import currently supports copied Chromium profiles. Firefox profile databases and cloud-only or unsupported binary editor data are not supported.
  • This is a prerelease. Please report any bugs/issues discovered.

APStudyCanvas 0.5 Beta

APStudyCanvas's first beta release improves Canvas by improving the dashboard, a much richer To-Do experience, improved grades and course cards, synchronized streak tracking, smoother motion, and the first Google Calendar integration through Nest.APStudy. This extension adds onto CanvasRefined which similarly started due to dislike of BetterCampus's high extension costs.

Features (All Free)

  • iOS Settings inspired Canvas Edit section with a new account area with Nest sign-in, account-management links, calendar controls, and a rebuilt Canvas preview toolbar.
  • Google Calendar connection and event-sync controls through Nest.APStudy. Google is the sole supported provider in this beta; Microsoft remains deferred.
  • Reworked To-Do rail with improved grouping, dropdown previews, and custom new tasks for recurring outside of canvas items.
  • Faster page-to-page To-Do continuity.
  • Improved course cards layout with wider-card and spacing reduction controls, and better loading behavior and progress visuals.
  • Streak function with a seven-day view (Duolingo inspired), cross-page updates, and light milestone effects.
  • Subtle transitions, better quality of life loading, and accessibility refinements across Canvas.
