v2.3.7
Widens the window edge resize zone so the frameless window is easier to grab and resize. No other changes.
Full Changelog: v2.3.6...v2.3.7
v2.3.6
v2.3.5
What's Changed
- Fixed: opening the release page from the update dialog inside the AppImage could crash the browser. The AppImage's bundled library path leaked into external programs; they are now launched with a clean environment.
Quick patch release, no other changes.
Each release artifact has a matching .sha256 file for verification.
v2.3.4
Cove PDF Editor v2.3.4
Version fix
The previous release had a version mismatch between the source code and the release tag, which caused the app to report the wrong version at runtime. This release rebuilds all binaries with the correct version baked in.
Includes the window border and resize handle improvements from the prior release.
Thanks to whooshy for pointing this out!
v2.3.3
Cove pdf-editor v2.3.3
Window border and resize fix
The app was frameless with no visible border, making the OS window edge hard to find and resize hard to initiate. This release adds a 4px visible border on the outer window so the edge is clearly perceivable against any wallpaper.
For easier resizing, a QSizeGrip / SE-corner resize grip and 6px-wide edge handles plus 8px corner handles have been added. The edge handles catch mousedown on the visible frame and call the platform resize API, so the user can grab anywhere on the frame to resize, not just exactly on the pixel line.
v2.3.2
v2.3.1
What's Changed
Bug Fixes
- Undo/Redo now works — Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y correctly update the canvas (page index was stale after reverting edits)
- Special characters preserved on save — em-dashes (—), curly quotes, and other non-ASCII characters no longer get corrupted when saving edited PDFs
Under the Hood
- Switched text rendering from
insert_texttoTextWriter+Fontobjects for full Unicode support - Incremental PDF save preserves original font tables on unedited pages
- Built-in Unicode fonts (helv/tiro/fimo) replace limited PDF base-14 fonts for replacement text
v2.3.0
What's New
- Uncapped page imports — no more 50-image limit when creating PDFs from images
- Delete key removes pages — select a page in the sidebar and press Delete or Backspace to remove it
- Page jump spinner — type a page number directly in the sidebar to navigate instantly
Thank you to Whoosy for the suggestions!
v2.2.0
Cove PDF Editor v2.2.0
Tabs, signatures, and redaction — Cove PDF Editor now opens multiple PDFs in tabs, signs documents, adds comment balloons, redacts sensitive content, inserts image pages, and reopens recent files — plus a round of performance and security hardening.
Added
- Document tabs. Work across multiple PDFs in one window instead of juggling separate instances.
- Signatures. Draw, type, or import a signature and place it anywhere on a page.
- Comment balloons. Annotate PDFs with floating comment markers for review and markup.
- Redaction. Permanently black out sensitive text and images before sharing a document.
- Image pages. Insert full-image pages directly into a PDF.
- Recents list. Reopen recently edited files straight from the start screen.
Performance & security
- Hot-path optimizations. Rendering and file-handling routines tuned for faster response on large documents.
- Security hardening. Dependency and runtime updates applied across the offline processing stack.

Cove PDF Editor v2.1.0
Cove PDF Editor v2.1.0
A feature release. The editor now opens multiple PDFs at once, signs them in one click, runs to a physical printer, and ships three new tools: signatures, numbered balloons, and hard redaction.
New: tabbed multi-document interface
- Open as many PDFs as you want side-by-side. Each tab keeps its own undo/redo stack and pending edits — switching between documents no longer drops state.
- Blank-PDF temp directories are now scoped to the owning tab and reaped on close, so closing a "New" document doesn't leak
/tmp/cove-*directories.
New: tools
- Signature — place a saved signature image with one click. The last image is remembered, so re-signing one PDF takes one click + one drag instead of one pick + one drag every time. Hold Shift when activating the tool to pick a different image (e.g. switching from signature to initials).
- Balloon — engineering-drawing-style numbered callouts. Drag from the feature you want to label to wherever the balloon should sit and the tool draws a leader line with an arrowhead at the anchor; just-clicking drops a balloon with no leader. Numbers are sequenced automatically. File → Append Balloon Key Pages emits a Letter-size table at the end of the PDF summarizing every balloon's number, source page, and description.
- Redact — drag a rectangle to permanently remove text, images, and vector graphics inside it on save. Uses PyMuPDF's
apply_redactions, not an annotation, so the result is irrecoverable. Solid black on the saved page; on-canvas the rect gets a thin red outline so you can tell it apart from a black free-form fill.
New: recent files
- Persists across launches via QSettings (paths only — no contents or metadata).
- Surfaced as both File → Open Recent and a clickable list on the empty drop card.
- Blank-PDF temp paths are excluded so the recents list stays clean.
New: insert images as pages
- File → Insert Images as Pages… picks one or more images and appends each as a new PDF page, centered with aspect preserved.
- The page-list sidebar now also accepts dropped image files directly — drop a PNG or JPG onto the page list and it becomes a new page.
- Single-import cap of 50 images to keep memory and disk in check.
New: physical print
- File → Print… opens the system print dialog and renders the document to the chosen printer.
- Page fitting is letterboxed: a landscape page on portrait paper is centered and scaled to fit, not stretched.
Fixed
- PNG transparency on save. Image edits with a soft-mask (alpha) now embed correctly. The previous
filename=path could route through a code path that flattened transparency to opaque black on the saved PDF; image bytes are now fed viastream=so the alpha channel survives.
Packaging
- Every shipped binary in this release has a sibling
<artifact>.sha256(standardsha256sumformat).
