SemaTor 1.1.349 → 1.1.489 — TL;DR

Compatibility (closer to a real ST)

  • TOS calls checked and fixed; the Line-A graphics and GEM/AES calls many older programs use are now implemented and tested.
  • Games load where TOS would put them, and SemaTor's own working memory is out of the ST's RAM.
  • Newly working: War in Middle Earth (all three disks), Switchblade, Dragon Ninja, 1000 Bornes.
  • HFE and SCP disk images load.
  • Disk sets are recognised, and drive B gets its disk automatically.
  • Games that save to their disk keep what they write.
  • Medium-res, high-res and overscan borders display properly.
  • The 68000's bus/address error frames match the chip's manual.

Sound

  • The YM2149 is now accurate: the real 32-step envelope, and no more folded-back "false notes" on high tones.

Menus and desktop

  • F12 rebuilt into seven tabs: Display, Picture, Motion, Sound, Machine, Game, Tools.
  • F11 gains save naming, Record/Replay and a Restart button.
  • Shift+F12 performance overlay.
  • SemaOS, a GEM-style desktop:
    • windows, folders and disk windows
    • drag games onto drives
    • Jukebox, Pictures, Explorer and Notes
    • SemaSynth, a 16-patch YM2149 synth
    • grouped, draggable icons

Enhancements

  • Wide views:
    • Buggy Boy: 16:9 and 21:9, with speed choices
    • Wizball: wide view, smooth motion and an artwork pack
    • Lombard RAC Rally: frame-rate modes, a high-res road (ish)
  • Sealed, signed artwork add-on packs.
  • Run-ahead for lower input lag on any game.

Speed and reliability

  • Every game runs cheaper; rewind stores only the memory that changed; the boot runs the same on every machine.
  • OpenGL and Vulkan confirmed drawing identical pictures.
  • Crash reports, Alt+F12 burst capture, and a save state that won't load now says why.
  • Release checks now walk every menu and window, stress the disk reader and test the sound chip, so broken things are caught before a release.
