v1.5.0
v1.5.0 — Video login screens and boot screens
The two big ones: designs can now be video, and the boot (disk decrypt) screen is no longer off limits.
Video login
- Three clip designs — Storm, Eyes and River. The first frame stands still while locked; the clip plays through as the unlock. Clips by @yamzeight, shipped with his permission and credited on the cards.
+ New clipin the sidebar turns any video of your own into a clip design (alsoomarchy-shell lock newClipDesign).- Clip speed 0.5x–2x under Settings.
- "Unlock video ends as your wallpaper": the clip's last frame is extracted while the screen is locked and set as the background the moment the video hands the screen back, so the desktop opens exactly where the video stopped. Off by default.
- Motion design loops a video of yours behind the clock; Pond, Constellation and Sparks react to your typing.
Boot screen (experimental)
- The LUKS passphrase screen can match your lock screen: live Plymouth twins for the clip designs, any other design via a snapshot — using the design's own input box, with the passphrase dots aligned exactly where the design draws its own — your videos, or a custom layout from the built-in editor. After the passphrase, a small spinner shows while the system comes up.
- Applying is near-instant: the theme ships as a systemd-stub initrd addon on the EFI partition instead of being baked into the initramfs. One file write, one password prompt, no rebuild. "Untouched" deletes the file; snapshot boot entries never see it. The first apply after updating cleans up the old baked-in theme (one last rebuild, ~30s). Systems not booting Omarchy's UKI keep the old path automatically.
- Colors and background follow your Omarchy theme: switching theme or cycling wallpapers re-applies the boot screen (opt-out in Settings).
- Marked experimental — it fails safe (a broken theme drops Plymouth to its plain text prompt; the boot itself is never touched), but it is younger than the rest of the plugin.
extras/boot-vm-test.shandextras/addon-vm-test.shboot your real kernel and initramfs in QEMU against a throwaway encrypted disk, so nothing has to be tested on your actual boot.
The explorer
- Redesigned: sidebar navigation (Styling / Animation / Boot screen / Settings), always-on live preview of the lock and boot screens, and boot changes build only when you press Apply.
- Designs of your own can be deleted from the card (
X, twice to confirm); a clip design takes its video along unless something else still uses it. omarchy-shell lock exploreTab <tab>opens the explorer on a specific tab.- New icon.
Safe by construction
- A broken design can never lock you out: it falls back to Classic, and if even that fails a plain built-in password field still takes your password.
- WebP wallpapers without
qt6-imageformatsno longer render designs black — they fall back to the theme color, and the explorer says what to install (#6).
