Ridge Racer 6 Recomp v0.1.5
A new test build of the unofficial native Windows version of Ridge Racer 6 (Xbox 360). Inside the zip it calls itself "test build 09".
You need your own Ridge Racer 6 disc image (USA, title ID 4E4D07D3). No game data is included.
New since v0.1.4
- Language. The game can now be played in any of the six languages on the disc: English, Japanese, German, French, Spanish or Italian. Until now it was always told to use English. Choose it under Language on the launcher's Display page. In Japanese, the menu titles and course names stay in English: that is how the game's own Japanese text has them. (Asked for in #2.)
- DLC folder. The game folder has a
DLCfolder. Put the downloadable content files you own in it (folders inside it are searched too), and each time the game starts it adds the ones that are new or have changed. The launcher's DLC page still works as before. (Asked for in #2.) - The launcher keeps settings changed elsewhere. It used to write all of its settings again at every Save or Play, so a render size chosen in the game's F4 window was undone at the next start. It now writes only what you changed in the launcher, and leaves other lines in
bin\rr6_recomp.tomlalone. (#15) - F3 shows the frame rate. The F3 window used to be an empty box. The log (
logs\run.log) also gets a line every 30 seconds with the frame rate and the slowest frame, so a bug report shows how fast the game ran on your PC. (#7) - The F4 window keeps a change only when you press Save to config in it. The launcher now says so.
- Safer content installer. Each content package's list of files is checked before anything is written (a doctored package could otherwise write files outside the content folder). Files are unpacked into a separate folder with every write checked, and only then moved into place; adding a package again replaces the old copy only once the new one is complete.
- Disc copy. A damaged disc image is refused instead of being copied in part, and an interrupted copy made with "Play without the launcher" is no longer taken for a finished one.
The runtime (rexruntime.dll, rexgpu-xenos.dll) is the same as in v0.1.3 and v0.1.4.
To update, unzip this one next to the old folder and move the game folder across; the game files do not need copying again. Saves are kept (they are in Documents\rr6_recomp). If you used the DLC page before, your content stays installed.
Install
- Download
RidgeRacer6-PC-v0.1.5.zipand unzip it to a normal folder. - Start
RR6 Launcher.exe. Windows may warn about it; see below. - Press Choose disc image... and pick your
.iso. The game files are copied out of it once (about 6 GB). - Press Play.
Known limitations
- On some PCs the game runs below full speed (#7). If that happens to you, press F3 in a race and add the number to that issue, with your processor and graphics card, or attach the report from
tools\collect-report.ps1. A lower Sharpness on the Display page can help. - On ultrawide screens the videos and the loading screen are stretched, and so is the rear-view mirror (#12).
- An achievement is awarded after the race, with the save, not at the moment it is earned; a race left early gives nothing. That is how the game itself works.
- AMD and Intel graphics, PlayStation controllers, the downloadable car designs, long sessions and the ending videos are largely untested.
- Online play does not work.
If Windows warns about the download
The programs are not code-signed, and a new release is a file few people have downloaded yet, so Windows and browsers warn about it.
- Edge blocks the download: in the downloads list choose the three dots next to the file, then Keep, Show more, Keep anyway.
- Before unzipping: right-click the zip, Properties, tick Unblock, OK.
- "Windows protected your PC" on the first start: More info, then Run anyway.
More in the README.
If your antivirus flags rexruntime.dll
bin\rexruntime.dll is the runtime of the ReXGlue SDK, the toolkit this port is made with, built from our fork of it. It is the same file as in v0.1.3 and v0.1.4. Eight scanners on VirusTotal flag it, all with one verdict, Gen:Variant.Yogi.85276: Bitdefender and seven products that use its engine. A false-positive report has been sent to Bitdefender. The file is not packed, and the name is a general-purpose label, not that of a known piece of malware.
The README has the results file by file with links, what the file does, and how to check that your copy is the published one.

- Language. The game can be played in any of its disc's six languages: English, Japanese, German, French, Spanish or Italian. Until now it was always told to use English. Choose once with
./ridge-racer-6.sh --language german(orenglish, japanese, french, spanish, italian); the choice is kept inbin/rr6_recomp.tomlasuser_language. In Japanese, the menu titles and course names stay in English: that is how the game's own Japanese text has them. - DLC folder. The package has a

--install-dlcis no longer lost when the script reopens itself in a terminal on the first start.- F3 shows the frame rate. The F3 window used to be an empty box. The log (
logs/run.log) now also gets a line every 30 seconds with the frame rate and the slowest frame, so a bug report shows how fast the game ran. - The F4 window keeps a change only when you press Save to config there.
Also in this build, as before: the black-track fix in the graphics code itself (our fork of the ReXGlue SDK), and the game's 36 achievements with a pop-up, a sound and a list (hold Back + Start, then Y; on a keyboard F7).
Which file
RidgeRacer6-Linux-TestBuild-06.tar.gz: desktop Linux.
Unpack it, put your .iso into the folder, and start ridge-racer-6.sh. README.txt in the archive has the details.
What to expect
These builds have only been run on a machine without a graphics card, with software rendering; how well they run on real hardware is not known yet. On that machine, German and Japanese were checked on the loading screen, and content in the DLC folder was added at start (stand-in packages made for testing; real content has been added and played on Windows). Please report what you see: tools/collect-report.sh in the unpacked folder packs the logs and a description of your system into one file.
Needs glibc 2.35 and the C++ library of GCC 13.2 or newer (Ubuntu 24.04, Debian 13, Fedora 39, SteamOS 3.6, Arch) and a Vulkan driver.
Ridge Racer 6 Recomp v0.1.4
Fifth test build of the unofficial native Windows version of Ridge Racer 6 (Xbox 360), and the fourth public release. Inside the zip it calls itself "test build 08".
You need your own Ridge Racer 6 disc image (USA, title ID 4E4D07D3). No game data is included.
New since v0.1.3
- Downloadable content. If you own downloadable content for Ridge Racer 6, you can now add it to the game. The launcher has a new DLC page: press Add content files... or Add a folder... and point it at your content.
- You need the content files from your own Xbox 360's storage. They are in
Content\0000000000000000\4E4D07D3\00000002and have long names without an extension. A PC cannot read an Xbox 360 drive directly; a reader program for the console's disk format is needed to copy them off. - A folder is searched together with the folders inside it, so the whole copied
Contentfolder will do. Only Ridge Racer 6 content is taken. - Added music appears as a "Player Disc" under Change BGM on the screen before a race.
- No content is included in this release, and none is downloaded. Please keep your content files to yourself.
- You need the content files from your own Xbox 360's storage. They are in
- The game itself is otherwise unchanged from v0.1.3.
Tested so far: five of the downloadable music tracks were added and played in a race. The downloadable car designs have not been tried. If you have them, a report on whether they work would be very welcome.
To update, unzip this one next to the old folder and move the game folder across; the game files do not need copying again. Saves are kept (they are in Documents\rr6_recomp).

You need your own Ridge Racer 6 disc image (USA, title ID 4E4D07D3). No game data is included.
New since v0.1.2
- Fewer antivirus warnings. The two runtime files,
bin\rexruntime.dllandbin\rexgpu-xenos.dll, are now built from our fork of the ReXGlue SDK instead of being copied out of the SDK's download. On VirusTotal the v0.1.2 zip was flagged by 20 of 67 scanners. This one was flagged by 8 of 67 on the day it was made, and all eight are the same Bitdefender-engine verdict. More below. - The game itself is unchanged. If v0.1.2 works for you and your antivirus leaves it alone, there is nothing to gain from updating.
To update, unzip this one next to the old folder and move the game folder across; the game files do not need copying again. Saves are kept (they are in Documents\rr6_recomp).

Third test build of the unofficial native Windows version of Ridge Racer 6 (Xbox 360), and the second public release: v0.1.1 was prepared but never published, so its changes are listed here too. Inside the zip it calls itself "test build 06".
You need your own Ridge Racer 6 disc image (USA, title ID 4E4D07D3). No game data is included.
New since v0.1.0
- Achievements. The game's 36 achievements work as they did on the console: earn one and, with the save after the race, a pop-up appears with a chime, and the unlock is kept with your save data.
- The list in the game: F7, or Esc and then Y; on a controller hold Back + Start for a second, then press Y.
- The launcher has an Achievements page, so progress is visible without starting the game.
- 15 of the 36 need Xbox Live play, which this version does not have. They are shown apart, and progress is counted against the 21 that can be earned (565 of the 1000 gamerscore).
- The chime is an original sound. To use another, put your own
achievement.wavnext toRR6 Launcher.exe.
- A proper way to leave the game. Press Esc, or hold Back + Start on a controller for a second, and the game asks "Quit Ridge Racer 6?". Enter or A quits, Esc or B goes back. Alt+F4 still works.
If you already have v0.1.0 set up, unzip this one next to it and move the game folder across; the game files do not need copying again. Saves are kept (they are in Documents\rr6_recomp).

Linux test build 04
An experimental build for desktop Linux. The Steam Deck package will be added to this release once it has been run on a Deck. It contains no game data: you need your own Ridge Racer 6 (USA) disc image.
New in test build 04
- The black track of builds 01 and 02 is now fixed where it came from, in the graphics code. This build is made with our fork of the ReXGlue SDK (v0.10.0.100), which carries the fix.
- Build 03 got around the fault by switching off the game's texture sharpening. That is back, so the road ahead is as sharp as in the Windows version.
Also in this build, as in 03: the game's 36 achievements with a pop-up, a sound and a list (hold Back + Start, then Y; on a keyboard F7).

Experimental builds for desktop Linux. They contain no game data: you need your own Ridge Racer 6 (USA) disc image.
New in test build 03
- Fixed: the track was drawn black (road, scenery, buildings and sky), on every machine, in builds 01 and 02.
- Steam Deck: the start script now notices when it was not started from Steam, where the Deck's buttons act as a keyboard and mouse and the game's controls are wrong, and offers to add the game to Steam.
Also in this build: the game's 36 achievements, with a pop-up, a sound and a list (hold Back + Start, then Y; on a keyboard F7).
