New: a notification blueprint that puts the recognised name into your Frigate
notification. Import it from blueprints/faceid-name-the-person.yaml; the README has a
one-click import badge.
It exists because of a question in the forum thread that turned out to have a hard answer.
Frigate notification blueprints fire when the event starts, and the name is not ready yet:
over 132 real recognitions the median was 7 seconds, with 3 seconds as the floor —
that is Frigate's own time-to-first-snapshot, which FaceID cannot undercut.
Waiting is not the fix either. FaceID writes the name back as sub_label, but Frigate
publishes no MQTT update when a sub_label is set — verified by setting one and listening
on frigate/events for 8 seconds: nothing. So a blueprint watching that topic cannot ever
learn the name, however long it waits.
The blueprint therefore triggers on faceid/event and replaces the notification that
already went out, using the same notification tag. Filters for cameras, zones and
whether strangers are announced. The zone filter deliberately requires the zone to be present, because an empty zone list is far more common than people expect.
