(Windows)
-
- Windows:%AppData%\Snapmaker_Orca\
- macOS:~/Library/Application Support/Snapmaker_Orca/

Call for Alpha Testing
The 2.4.0 Alpha release ships a batch of new features (see the changelog above), but more importantly, it moves three foundational dependencies to new major versions — components that normally run unnoticed, and the ones internal testing can never fully cover.
Click to expand dependency upgrade list
| Component | From → To | Scope of impact |
|---|---|---|
| OpenSSL (network security library) | 1.1.1w → 3.5.7 (LTS) | All networked features: sign-in, downloads, sending print jobs, device connectivity |
| macOS build environment | CI moved from macos-14 to macos-15 (macOS 15 host + Xcode 16 toolchain) | macOS builds only: packaging/signing/notarization, older-OS compatibility, toolchain-level differences |
| Flutter (embedded web framework) | 3.24 → 3.41 | All embedded web pages: Home, sign-in, model library, device page, calibration |
We have verified the core workflow (import → slice → send to printer → monitor) on mainstream printer models. But the variety of real-world environments — OS versions, older firmware, self-hosted print servers, weak networks — can only be covered by real usage. Running into problems on less common paths is expected — every report directly shapes the quality of the final release. Please report what you see directly; there is no need to troubleshoot first.
The following environments are the hardest for us to cover internally, and users in these groups are especially welcome to participate:
- Users on macOS (our build environment has never been this new, so older systems are the biggest gap), and users already on macOS 26 (Tahoe) — a quick smoke test would be greatly appreciated
- Users on weak networks, corporate networks, or behind proxies
Potential issues from the three upgrades
- Network & device connectivity: sign-in failures or certificate errors, model/preset download failures, LAN device discovery failing, print upload failures, device status not refreshing, connection going abnormal after the screen turns off (Windows)
- Embedded web pages: blank Home / sign-in / model library / device pages, broken styling, CJK input misbehaving, buttons not responding
- macOS only: Gatekeeper/notarization issues on first launch ("damaged / cannot be verified"), startup or rendering problems on older systems, visual regressions (dark mode, fonts, table lines). If the app crashes on launch, please report it immediately — such reports are especially valuable
- Not affected: purely offline workflows — local import, slicing, exporting G-code to USB — do not touch the upgraded components
Upgrade notes
Process presets have been consolidated. Presets of the same layer height but different quality tiers (Fine / High Quality, etc.) have been merged into Standard presets. If you have custom processes based on them, please check them against the mapping tables in the changelog above — if the mapping looks incorrect, that is also valid feedback — please report it.
Known issues
Tracked in #840 (continuously updated). If you are not sure whether an issue is already known, please report it anyway; duplicates will be consolidated on our side.
Suggested test checklist (~30 minutes, ordered by sample coverage need)
- Cold start → walk through all settings tabs (watch for crashes/freezes)
- Sign in → Home page → download a model (OpenSSL: the sign-in and download paths; this release includes several sign-in fixes, so this path deserves extra attention)
- Slice → send over LAN → watch device status update in real time (OpenSSL: the device connectivity path)
- Self-hosted print server users: connect and upload one G-code file — the scenario where we lack samples the most
- Open the embedded pages one by one — Home, sign-in, model library, device page, calibration (Flutter: watch for blank screens, broken styling, buttons not responding; a weak-network pass is a bonus)
- macOS users: check the main window and settings in both light and dark mode; on macOS 12–14, pay extra attention to startup and canvas rendering
- High-Flow Hot End: follow the Hot End guide to slice and print with a supported filament and profile, and confirm the parameters take effect
How to provide feedback
Channels: GitHub Issues. We plan to collect feedback for about one week, then incorporate it into the stable release.
- Minimum requirements: a screenshot or screen recording plus one sentence describing what you did and what went wrong is enough; we will follow up with any questions
- The more info, the faster the fix (when possible): app version, OS and version (macOS users: exact minor version); printer model and firmware version (required for connectivity issues); steps to reproduce, expected vs actual; logs — the latest file under log/ in the config directory
- Crashes: when prompted after a crash, please allow the report to be sent (alpha crashes are tagged automatically, which is the fastest path to a fix), then add a short note about what you were doing
If your printer is on the mainstream list and everything went smoothly, a one-line reply like "Model X + firmware Y, full workflow OK" is just as valuable — it helps us confirm the risks are contained.
Install & rollback
Installing the Alpha keeps your existing configuration. The new version may migrate configuration one-way, so rolling back may not fully restore it — back up the whole config directory before installing:
- Windows: %AppData%\Snapmaker_Orca\
- macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Snapmaker_Orca/
To roll back to the stable release, fully uninstall the Alpha first and then reinstall the stable version
