The Streaming Performance Update

✨ Highlights

New Streaming Engine (v3)

The core encryption logic has been completely rewritten to support chunk-based streaming. Instead of loading entire files into RAM, Timenc now processes data in 64 KB blocks.

This allows you to encrypt multi-gigabyte files such as 4K videos or large archives with a minimal memory footprint.

Massive Performance Boost for Large Files

By moving away from monolithic encryption, Timenc is now significantly more stable, responsive, and memory-efficient when handling large data sets.

No more Out of Memory crashes on systems with limited RAM.

Seamless Backward Compatibility

Even though the default format is now v3, Timenc 1.2.0 remains fully compatible with all existing .timenc (v2) files.

The application automatically detects the file version and selects the correct decryption path.

Improved File Handling

Integrated shutil-based operations improve file moving and temporary file cleanup, ensuring a cleaner workspace after encryption tasks.

Install over your existing version.

All settings, languages, and custom shortcuts are fully preserved.

New Format by Default

New files are encrypted using the v3 Streaming Format.

⚠️ These files require Timenc 1.2.0 or newer to be decrypted.

Legacy Support

All existing v2 files can still be decrypted without any user action.

ℹ️ Note: Decrypting legacy v2 files still requires loading the full file into RAM. The streaming memory benefits apply to all new v3 encryptions.
