SocietyPress 1.1.87

Seventy-six releases have landed since 1.1.11 in August. The headlines, in the words of the changelog:

The dashboard was rebuilt

It was cleared to an empty screen and put back one piece at a time. It is now made of WordPress's own boxes — drag one by its title bar to move it between columns, click the title to close it up, use Screen Options to add and remove boxes and to choose one, two, three or four columns. Everything is remembered per person.

A society can arrange the dashboard it wants new volunteers to find and press Make this the society's dashboard; anybody who has not arranged their own starts there. Committee chairs get a box of their own — their committee's meetings and events, its open volunteer slots, and anybody waiting on them to say yes.

Plain English

Eleven screens were renamed to say what they do: Insights is How We're Doing, Audit Log is Change History, Blast Email is Send Email, Modules is Features, User Access is Who Can Do What. Buttons followed — a saved copy of your design is a saved look everywhere.

Search that finds the setting, not just the screen

Every SocietyPress screen carries a search box. It searches the screens and the individual settings inside them, and choosing a setting takes you to it — scrolls to it, marks it, puts your cursor in it.

A help desk of your society's own

Volunteers can report something broken, ask a question, or suggest a change, from any screen. The screen they were on and the versions they are running are recorded for them. Whoever looks after the site is emailed, and the conversation stays on the ticket.

Recurring events say what they mean

Setting up the monthly meeting used to mean finding a third Thursday on a calendar and typing that date. Now you say "the third Thursday of every month" and the dates it will create are listed before you save. "Last" is a real choice.

Notable fixes

• Screen Options on the dashboard had no Apply button, so nothing you ticked was ever saved.
• A feature the society had never been offered was indistinguishable from one they had switched off, so anything shipped after their first visit to the Features screen arrived switched off and stayed that way.
• An administrator who also chairs a committee was never treated as a chair, and could not reach the My Committee page built for exactly that person.
• Members no longer expire; the store, Files, volunteer sign-ups and the admin sidebar all had fixes of their own.
