💙 About

What is SoterCare Developers? A community of students who learn software engineering, AI, Cloud, IoT, Blockchain, and Web3 by building real things together — in the open, on GitHub.

Who is it for? Any student — any university, any year, any experience level. You do not need any connection to SoterCare's healthcare product to belong here — this community is open to anyone who wants to learn and build, full stop. You don't need to already know how to code, either. Designers, writers, organizers, and photographers are just as much a part of this as engineers.

How do I join? There's no application. Star this repo, introduce yourself in Discussions, come to an event, or open your first pull request. See JOIN.md for the full walkthrough.

What do members do? Attend and run workshops, hack at hackathons, contribute to open-source repositories, mentor newer members, and document everything we learn so the next student doesn't start from zero.

Why GitHub? Because this is where the work actually lives — our events, guides, resources, and history are version-controlled, public, and open for anyone to improve. Reading this repository is getting to know us.

SoterCare Developers is the official student developer community built by the team behind SoterCare — a student-led healthcare technology venture. This repository is entirely about the people side of that: no product code lives here, and no prior connection to SoterCare's product is required to belong here.

🐙 How We Use GitHub

GitHub isn't just where our code lives — it's how this entire community runs, in the open:

  • Documentation — every guide, template, and event write-up lives in this repository, versioned and public
  • Workshop & event planning — proposals, checklists, and materials tracked through issues and pull requests
  • Issues — for concrete tasks: event proposals, bug reports, resource suggestions, workshop proposals
  • Pull requests — how every contribution gets reviewed and merged, whether it's code, docs, or an event write-up
  • Discussions — for questions, introductions, and conversation that doesn't need a formal issue
  • Community projectsawesome-student-resources and this repository are both maintained entirely in the open, by contributors
  • Learning resources — curated guides any member can read, use, and improve

If you can read a README and open a pull request, you already know how to participate here.

🎯 Mission

To empower students to build meaningful, open technology by learning together, shipping real projects, and lifting each other up through mentorship and community. Full version: MISSION.md.

Our values:

  1. Beginners are welcome — always. Everyone's first pull request matters.
  2. Learning in public. We share our slides, notes, code, and mistakes.
  3. Ship real things. Tutorials are a start; shipping is the teacher.
  4. Credit generously. Every contribution — code, design, docs, organizing — gets recognized.
  5. Care for the community, not just the code. The people matter as much as the projects.

🛠️ Community Focus

  • 🤖 Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning
  • ☁️ Cloud Computing
  • 📡 Internet of Things (IoT)
  • ⛓️ Blockchain & Web3
  • 💻 Software Engineering & Full-Stack Development
  • ❤️ Open Source Collaboration

Members explore these areas through workshops, hackathons, and real contributions — not just lectures.

🌍 Community Activities

We run and join events year-round — workshops, hackathons, innovation challenges, and meetups. Every event has its own page in events/ with an overview, impact, gallery, and team. Landing page: EVENTS.md.

Want to propose one? Open an Event Proposal.

Community Impact so far — full numbers in the Impact Dashboard:

  • 🌟 3000+ students reached across all community activities
  • 🎓 2 hackathons hosted (VisioNEX 1 & 2) — 500+ students from 40+ schools
  • 👨‍💻 100+ students trained at the Algorand Blockchain Workshop
  • 🤝 Community Partner — Nexus Spring of Code · 🌱 Ambassador & Contributor — GirlScript Summer of Code 2026
  • 📚 Workshops run across AI, Cloud, and Blockchain (Algorand & Solana)

Community members have also competed in:

  • 🏆 Hult Prize (Finalist) · 🥈 CuttingEdge 2026 (2nd Runner-Up, Best SDGP Community & Project) · 🚀 NIA Innovation Voucher Programme 2026 (Selected) · 🥉 CodeSprint 11 (3rd Place)

These competition wins recognize Team SoterCare's product work, not this community directly — we list them because the same people who build this community also build that. See Impact Dashboard for the full breakdown.

❤️ Open Source

Open source is at the heart of how we learn. We participate in and run open-source programs, and we maintain beginner-friendly issues across our repositories.

🎓 Workshops

We run hands-on sessions across our whole stack — grouped by track in workshops/, with slides in slides/. Landing page: WORKSHOPS.md.

New to organizing? Start with our workshop playbook. From VisioNEX to CodeSprint to the Hult Prize, full hackathon write-ups live in hackathons/ — playbook: organize a hackathon.

📚 Learning Resources

Curated, topic-organized guides in resources/:

For a much larger curated catalog — programming languages, cloud, career prep, student programs, and more — see our sister repository: awesome-student-resources.

🚀 Community Projects

Real things this community has built and maintains, in the open:

  • awesome-student-resources — a curated, categorized catalog of free learning resources, tools, and student opportunities, maintained by and for this community
  • This repository — every guide, template, and event page here is a community-maintained open-source project in its own right
  • Hackathon projects — student-built projects from VisioNEX and other hackathons we run or join

Built something as part of this community? Add it here via a pull request.
