Ruby Downloader v1.6.9 - Release Notes

Overview

Ruby Downloader version 1.6.9 delivers critical reliability enhancements to video stream resolution handling, upgrades YouTube extraction client architecture, refines session cookie workflows, and improves multi-language localization.

What's Changed

1. YouTube 4K / High-Resolution Download Fix

  • Eliminated Silent 360p Fallback: Resolved a critical issue where selecting 4K (2160p), 2K (1440p), or Full HD (1080p) could silently result in a 360p download (Format 18).
  • Attempt 1 Client Architecture: YouTube's recent SABR (Server Adaptive Bitrate) experiments on standard web and mobile clients frequently strip separate high-resolution DASH video streams. The extractor client chain (youtube:player_client=web_embedded,visionos,default) is now enforced on the very first download attempt rather than relying on delayed retries.
  • Format Resolution Sorting: Added --format-sort "res:${height},fps" and updated format selector queries to strictly prioritize requested video dimensions without allowing fallback to lower-resolution streams.
  • Windows TLS Session Resumption: Integrated --legacy-server-connect across all video, playlist, and audio extraction routines to eliminate Windows OpenSSL [SSL: INVALID_SESSION_ID] session ticket handshake errors.

2. Cookie Management and Age Verification

  • Dedicated Netscape cookies.txt Workflow: Replaced the browser dropdown selection with a dedicated, isolated cookies.txt management interface. This avoids Windows DPAPI decryption issues and SQLite browser database lock contention when browsers are running.
  • Age-Restricted Content Handling: Verified seamless resolution discovery and extraction for age-restricted videos and trailers (including 4K AV1/Opus stream extraction).
  • Safe Cookie Session Copying: Cookie authentication now operates on an isolated session copy, preventing yt-dlp from mutating or pruning master user cookie files upon process termination.

3. Localization and User Interface Refinements

  • Client-Side Error Localization: Converted server-side responses to language-agnostic error codes (err_age_restricted, err_info_failed, cookie_fallback_warning). Error banners and notification toasts are now rendered dynamically in the selected language.
  • Multi-Language Synchronization: Updated translation dictionaries across all 6 supported languages (English, Turkish, German, Spanish, French, and Russian).
  • View Count Abbreviation Fix: Corrected the English translation for billion view counts (views_b now renders "B views").
  • Interface Cleanup: Preserved the "Potato PC Mode" performance toggle with clean, clutter-free labeling and removed extraneous emoticons across all screens.

4. Build, Packaging, and Security

  • Installer Compilation: Packaged with Inno Setup using LZMA2 solid compression (RubyDownloader_Setup.exe, ~136.7 MB).
  • Digital Signature: Both unpacked executable (Ruby Downloader.exe) and installer executable (RubyDownloader_Setup.exe) are signed with the Spacexcx code-signing certificate (CN=Spacexcx, O=Spacexcx).
  • Binary Integrity: Bundled with updated yt-dlp and ffmpeg essentials binaries.
