Discord Video Compressor — Hardware Encoding v2.1.0
This first Hardware Encoding fork release makes GPU encoding the default and adds a native Windows GUI for Discord-sized videos.
What's included
- Automatic AV1 → HEVC → H.264 hardware selection with real encoder tests and software fallback.
- An optional Output name field: name the result without renaming the input. Existing outputs and duplicate filenames are preserved with
(2),(3), etc. Batch templates support{name}and{index}; split parts also retain the chosen name. - Encoder menus explain vendor, codec and speed/compression/playback tradeoffs. Preset and rescue-quality menus include guidance.
- Audio bitrate controls accept integer targets such as 124 or 127 kbps. All settings are shared with the command-line scripts through saved preferences.
- Exact decimal-MB caps, protected inputs, isolated temporary files, corrected audio handling, bounded splitting, cancellation and a SHA-256-verified FFmpeg installer.
- Updated English/French guides, audit notes and automated Windows/Linux regression tests.
Validation: Windows PowerShell 5.1 and Ubuntu regression suites passed on the release commit. The portable ZIP was also extracted and its GUI/default settings checked locally.
Windows quick start
Download and extract Discord-Video-Compressor-Hardware-Encoding-v2.1.0.zip, then double-click open_compressor.bat. Click Install FFmpeg if needed. Keep Encoder = auto for hardware selection; choose H.264 for broad playback compatibility. The default cap is 19.8 MB.
The portable ZIP contains the scripts and GUI. FFmpeg is installed separately; Python and Node are not required. Linux/macOS use the Bash CLI.
