NDS4MiSTer Public Touch Beta — 2026-08-28
Pre-release
Pre-release
This experimental beta adds basic controller-driven touchscreen input while
retaining the compatible video path, FPGA sound, persistent
cartridge saves, selectable screen layouts, and the default 8-pixel screen
gap from the previous public save beta.
What is new
- The controller's right stick selects an absolute DS touchscreen position.
- The remappable
Touchaction presses and releases the stylus. - Touch coordinates, pen release, SPI behavior, and direct-boot calibration
passed focused regressions. - The exact core in the package passed MiSTer hardware testing.
- Public source and release metadata are available at source commit
0db5c71.
Installation
Extract the ZIP directly over the root of the MiSTer SD card. After each
MiSTer reboot, run Scripts/NDS_Kickstart.sh, then load NDS_20260828 from
the Console menu and select your own .nds file.
The ARM renderer is deliberately not persistent. NDS Kickstart must be run
once after every MiSTer reboot.
Important limitations
- Engine B is not enabled, so both displayed positions currently show Engine
A. Touch works, but precise use is difficult when the touchscreen graphics
are not visible. - Heavy 3D scenes may slow down, fall behind, or crash.
- Cartridge-access latency can cause late or missing objects and effects.
- Reset can hang; reselect the ROM through
Load NDSinstead. - Chrono Trigger has a separate boot failure under investigation.
- NAND saves, save states, Wi-Fi, and microphone support are not implemented.
- The FPS counter measures completed ARM-rendered 3D frame publications, not
total emulation speed or HDMI refresh rate.
No games, commercial ROMs, BIOS files, personal saves, credentials, or user
data are included.
