Sprout v0.2.0

Sprout v0.2.0 adds the features developers ask for most in tree and repo-context tools, a code graph for AI agents, and proper packaging for every platform.

Homebrew and the Linux packages include bash/zsh/fish completions and man sprout.

New

• Key files in --ai: the files your code uses most, with their function and type signatures (Go via go/parser; TS/JS, Python, Rust, Java and Kotlin via their declarations and imports).
• --entry: a suggested reading order (README, entry points, then the most-used files).
• Remote repositories: sprout github.com/owner/repo --ai clones to a temporary folder, maps it, and cleans up. Private repos work through your git credentials.
• Config files: ~/.config/sprout/config and per-project .sproutrc.
• Filtering: --only, and --ignore with gitignore syntax (**, anchors, !negation), plus .sproutignore.
• --size with true folder totals, --sort name|size|time, -r, --dirs-first, --si.
• --changed-within 7d, --max-files N, --hyperlink (OSC 8).
• --completion bash|zsh|fish|powershell and --man, generated from the flag definitions.
• MCP gains a reading_order tool; project_map includes key files.

Faster

On Kubernetes (31k files): a full tree takes 0.47 s (was 2.36 s), --ai 1.1 s (was 3.8 s), --entry 1.0 s. bench_test.go reproduces the numbers.

Fixed

• Sorting by time misordered folders collapsed by --depth.
• Signatures with generic defaults (HTTPError<T = unknown>) were cut short.
• --stats now labels binary units correctly (KiB/MiB).

Sprout v0.1.0

The first release of Sprout: a map of your codebase, for you and your AI agent.

What's in it

• A tree that knows what matters. .gitignore is respected (via git itself), common build and dependency folders are hidden outside git, and the last line counts what was left out. -L, -a, --hidden, --no-ignore and --ignore work before or after the path.
• --ai: a compact, structure-first project map for LLMs, fitted to a token budget (--budget, default 2000). It covers purpose, stack, languages, entry points, config and CI, uncommitted work, recent hotspots, and a breadth-first layout. It never includes file contents.
• --diff <rev>: a PR or any revision range as a tree of changed paths, with +/- line totals per folder.
• --git: working-tree status in place, with deleted files shown where they were and change counts on folders.
• --churn [--since]: commits per path, drawn as bars in the tree.
• sprout mcp: an MCP server with project_map, tree and diff_tree for Claude Code, Cursor and other agents. It's read-only, and paths are confined to the project.
• --json (schemaVersion 1) and --stats.
• Color only on terminals, and NO_COLOR is respected. It's a single ~1 MB static binary with no dependencies beyond git for git features.

Fixed since the pre-release code

• go install works (the module path was wrong).
• Flags after the path were silently ignored.
• One unreadable folder aborted the whole walk.
• CI had been failing since it was added.
