Creating a new Character

Prerequisites

make sure the addon is installed (if not you can follow along here )

Import the sample character

image

in an empty blend file, use the Import Rig button to import the default Rig make sure the mode is set to "append" for this (can be changed in the preferences) You may have to refresh the List first.

Customizing your character

to start customizing your character, make sure its rig is selected. Then under the Skin section you can make changes to the default configuration of the character

Important! Some settings will only be visible in material preview mode!

Advanced modifications

We support almost all changes you make in this file. If you modify shaders, please make sure to not re-name or delete existing nodegroups. They are required for UI functionality. If they are deleted, the UI may be partially broken and I cannot guarantee a working addon.

If you want to modify the mesh, please keep in mind that the shapekeys will not adapt to your changes by default

You may also add new collections as long as they are under the SQM_CH_Default Rig collection. If you want to make use of the Name your character function, please prefix the collection with the current characters name (default is "SQM-Default")

Naming your character

When you are done customizing your character, select it and click the Name Your Character! button and give it a name. Make sure you do not remove the prefix SQM_CH_* from the parent collection. It is required for the addon to find it

*you can set a custom prefix in the settings

Saving your character to the list

If you want to re-use your characters in further animations, make sure to save the file to a dedicated folder for your characters. Then go to Edit > Preferences > Add-ons > Squared Media Pro Rig V1 and set the Library Path to your characters Folder. image

I also recommend to set the Import Method to Link when using existing characters. This will link your character into the scene instead of appending, create a library override and allow for seamless updates if any changes are made to the character
