Ghostty Studio v0.4 — Local Backgrounds, Safely Applied
Pre-release
Pre-release
Ghostty Studio v0.4 adds a private local background library and makes edits source-aware across Ghostty's configuration layers.
What's new
- Import multiple PNG or JPEG backgrounds into a private local library.
- Switch images manually or randomly, with controls for visibility, fit, position, tiling, and live preview.
- See which configuration file supplies the effective value when Ghostty includes or resets other files.
- Move an overridden draft to the source that actually wins, without saving it first.
- Edit 31 reviewed Ghostty 1.3.1 settings on macOS.
- A new independent ghost identity across the app, installer, sidebar, and favicon.
Safer by design
- Imported images are decoded, bounded, normalized, and stripped of metadata.
- Original and managed image paths stay out of the WebView, reviews, and diffs.
- Saved scalar values are checked against Ghostty's final effective configuration, with rollback on mismatches or source changes.
- Managed images cannot be removed while any live configuration layer may still use them.
- Source-dependent behavior stays disabled on Ghostty versions that have not passed the same compatibility audit.

This remains an early preview. The app is ad-hoc signed rather than Developer ID signed or notarized, so macOS may ask you to confirm the first launch.
