NFSMW-NX v1.0.0

First public release of NFSMW-NX: the native Nintendo Switch port of Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005) (Xbox 360).

Update (September 29, 2026)

The NROs of this release were replaced with a new build. It's still version 1.0.0.

  • Dubbed videos: videos re-encoded by fan translations such as the Brazilian Portuguese one no longer come out
green or with glitches. They use B-frames and the in-loop deblocking filter which the game's own videos don't.
  • Color filter: a new setting, nfsmw_tratamiento_visual, makes the game's yellow tint (its "visual treatment",
which players call the "piss filter") softer (suave) or turns it off (apagado). The default, original, looks
as on the Xbox 360. It can be changed while playing from the Debug Menu (L + R + D-Pad Right), category Graficos.
  • Installer page: it recognizes the Brazilian Portuguese translation which uses the Spanish PAL executable. For an
edition it doesn't support yet, it can create nfsmw-nx-report.txt to send us, even from default.xex alone.

To update, open the installer page again, choose your game and use Create nfsmw-nx-update.zip. It contains only
the NRO, nfsmw.toml and the shader library. Copy it over your folder on the SD card: your saves are kept and the
new nfsmw.toml replaces yours (if you had changed a setting in it, change it again).

How to install

Use the installer page: https://stevensnd.github.io/nfsmw-nx-installer/

It reads your own copy of the game in the browser and builds a package ready to copy to the SD card. The NROs
attached to this release are what the page uses: on their own they do not run, because they need the game files and
the shader library that the page builds from your disc.

Supported editions

One NRO per edition of the game (the installer picks the right one automatically):

File Edition
nfsmw-nx-pal-es.nro PAL - Spanish & Brazilian Portuguese (Fan Version)
nfsmw-nx-pal-en.nro PAL - English & Russian (Fan Version)
nfsmw-nx-pal-fr.nro PAL - French
nfsmw-nx-pal-de.nro PAL - German
nfsmw-nx-pal-it.nro PAL - Italian
nfsmw-nx-pal-pl.nro PAL - Polish (Fan Version)
nfsmw-nx-usa.nro NTSC-U
nfsmw-nx-jpn.nro NTSC-J
nfsmw-nx-kor.nro NTSC-K - Korean
nfsmw-nx-cht.nro NTSC - Asia, Traditional Chinese

Requirements

  • A Nintendo Switch that can run homebrew.
  • Start nfsmw-nx.nro from the Homebrew Menu in title takeover mode (launch a game while holding R), or through a
    39-bit forwarder made with Sphaira

Controls

Each Switch button acts as the Xbox 360 button with the same letter: A accepts and B goes back, as in other
Switch games, also in the Debug Menu. To use the face buttons by position instead, as on an Xbox pad (B acts as A,
A as B, Y as X and X as Y), set input_xbox_layout = true in nfsmw.toml.

Resolution

Automatic by default: 1280x720 in handheld mode and 1920x1080 docked, chosen when the game starts (after
docking or undocking, restart the game to switch). To use one resolution in both modes, set
nfsmw_resolucion_interna to 1280x720 or 1920x1080 in nfsmw.toml. If the frame rate is too low docked, use
1280x720.

Notes

  • The Debug Menu (L + R + Right) and the log files are in Spanish in this version.
  • The first race after installing or updating compiles the graphics pipelines it has not seen yet, so it can stutter
for a few seconds. They are saved on the SD card and later sessions start smoothly.
  • Performance, overclocking and all the settings are explained in the README.
  • Source code and documentation: this repository. The code of these NROs is the main branch as of September 29,
2026. The licenses of the NRO and its libraries are in LICENSE and THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md.
