How do I completely disable the damn welcome tour?

I am so sick of it popping up every single time I go to use this thing. EVERY SINGLE TIME. Just leave me tf alone already, why is this even a feature???

While I'm at it: my god is the search feature of the docs site horrible.

Search for the word 'tour' and every single result is for the word 'hour'

I literally can't even find the word 'tour' in the docs because it refuses to actually use the terms you've typed into it.

I hear you on the docs search frustration. Regarding your original question about disabling the welcome tour — you can permanently disable it by setting the environment variable SYSTEM_ENABLEONBOARDING=false in your Docker Compose (or equivalent config):

environment:
  - SYSTEM_ENABLEONBOARDING=false

Or in your settings.yml:

system:
  enableOnboarding: false

This was added in PR #6398 specifically because users were frustrated with the tour reappearing [1]. Either option permanently kills it.

Well, this blows.

I was very unhappy to see the only response came from a clanker; but it was at least detailed and seemed to have the answer. I figured I'd just shut up and try it.

The environment variable did nothing.

So I tried the xml version. That also does not work.

Both are currently set, yet I still get the damn welcome tour everytime I start this container and login.

I'm just going to find a better tool for this. Perhaps from a crew that actually cares about their project. If we can't even get a human response, this place isnt worth my time.

I appreciate the response. I had been running 2.13.1 when I commented earlier today. I don't really use this much and typically don't leave it running.

When I start the container after several days of not using it, then login; I'm usually presented with the welcome tour. Once I close it, it doesn't reappear for a few days (even if I restart the container), but it always comes back. This was my experience today, after setting the above a few weeks ago and waiting untill I needed to use it again.

I am now running 2.14.0.

I had closed the tour earlier today, so I don't expect to see it for another day or so. It has not yet come back after pulling the new image 10min ago.

I will not accept Discords TOS nor allow my conversations to be locked behind an unsearchable walled garden that makes for a horrible experience to try and hold a discussion in.

If you ran an open forum for your project instead of pushing your community into a damn group chat; people might actually be able to find solutions for themselves, or find (let alone participate in) older discussions that address similar problems. Hell, make a reddit/lemmy instance/community.

A group chat platform is an aweful replacement for a forum. Discords adoption is one of the worst parts of community/FOSS projects.

So right now the dismissable is tied to localstorage in your browser so unless you jump to another device it shouldnt ever appear.
Based on it reappearing i assume your storage is getting reset weekly?
Will look into storing a flag on server itself for this to avoid storage resets reintroducing this

This is being accessed from a variety of machines, some of which I don't own. It shouldn't be tied to a browsers storage, but the actual user.

Either way: it should not be appearing at all with enableOnboarding set to false, no?

enableOnboarding was AI garbage sadly, Will work on tying it to the user for next release and get it out quickly and then after think about further actions

Asking for help, only to be left with an AI is disheartening enough; but then it doesn't even give useful answers...

Admittedly my first encounter with Dosu, but it's not encouraging.
