First release of Record, a privacy-first activity tracker for macOS.

Features

  • Foreground app tracking with idle detection (5s poll, 5min idle threshold)
  • Live dashboard with ticking counters, per-app breakdown with native icons, session counts, and progress bars
  • Monthly view with daily activity bars
  • System tray with show/hide (left-click) and quit menu
  • Window close hides to tray so tracking continues in the background
  • Dark and light mode following system preference
  • SQLite storage with WAL mode, all data stays local
  • Bundle ID resolution from process paths via Info.plist
  • App icon extraction from system .icns files, cached on disk

Technical

  • Tauri v2 with Rust backend and Solid.js frontend
  • Heartbeat merge logic: consecutive heartbeats for the same app get merged into sessions
  • Dual-rate updates: 5s backend fetch + 1s frontend interpolation
  • Monorepo with shared types package for future extensibility

Requirements

  • macOS (Apple Silicon). Intel build coming via CI.
  • Grant Accessibility permission on first launch for window title tracking.

Install

Download Record_0.1.0_aarch64.dmg, open it, drag Record to Applications.
