Diversity Statement
Describe how your system will deal with equity and diversity.
Our development team commits to creating an inclusive product for all to use- indeed, from the start, it has been our initial idea to include as many people as possible, as we wanted to create a game engine that could support multiple programming languages. Since not every single individual is well-versed in all programming languages, offering the possibility to generate SDKs in more than two popular coding languages aims to support our users and include beginners from all coding backgrounds. Moreover, besides the inclusivity of knowledge Rena Engine provides through its multi-language support, all user interfaces and designs follow WAI-ARIA design patterns for inclusivity [1]. The design of our game engine also aims to reduce visual clutter as much as possible, making it less overwhelming and easier to navigate.
Lastly, our team plans on delivering different user manuals for each user type: participant, competition host, and GitHub collaborator. We believe that no beginner participant needs to feel intimidated by competitive coding competitions, and we aim to provide a helpful handbook that will guide them in the utilization of Rena Engine. As for competition hosts, we're committed to providing a detailed manual to ensure successful competition gameplays. Providing a handbook/manual is also a helpful addition for people with disabilities such as ADHD as it will provide an easy step-by-step plan to follow and make the reader less prone to distractions.
As mentioned in our Proposal, Rena Engine is an open-source work open to anyone regardless of background, gender, etc. We hope to share the knowledge with people and foster a community of collaboration with our stakeholder, CGD, and their members. Our goal is for Rena Engine to keep on evolving for the users. To achieve this goal we take the responsibility of creating a solid foundation of documentation for any person who wishes to expand our endeavour and transform Rena Engine for the better.
