This release improves how errors are handled and communicated to users. For example, account and position formulas now say why a connection is failing, and refused or unanswered market-data requests are retried automatically. The included demo workbook detects if it is running under earlier versions of Excel that don't support all current features and points to alternative demos that are compatible back to Excel 2013.

Requirements

What was fixed

Connections and reopening:

  • With the Preserve values on disconnect setting off (the default), account, P&L, position and positions-list formulas now show why a connection is failing (when StreamXLS knows) instead of a bare #N/A. Error display set to NA does not hide these, and they are text, not an error value: SUM and the other aggregate functions skip them and IFNA passes them through, so test such formulas with ISNUMBER where a total matters. (Order, orders-list, option-definition and quote formulas don't show these reasons.)
  • Preserve values on disconnect now holds through a workbook reopen: in a workbook opened while TWS is unreachable — or still connecting — account, position, and order formulas keep their saved values until TWS sends current ones. However, a formula Excel recalculates before StreamXLS establishes a TWS connection will return #N/A, so this feature is intended to support Excel in Manual calculation mode.
  • A position, quote, or StageOrder formula whose symbol comes from a cell showing a StreamXLS error now returns RTD error: This formula's symbol is an error message from another cell — it fills in once that cell shows a value. and does not send a request to TWS.
  • A port=, host= or clientid= containing an underscore is now refused with a message instead of connecting somewhere else — host=127.0.0.1_7496 with port=7497 used to connect to the live port 7496, not paper 7497 — and an empty host= now means your default host rather than 127.0.0.1.
  • If Excel exceeds the StreamXLS connection count limit (currently 10), StreamXLS replies with the solution (fewer host/port/clientID combinations), and the ConfigWarnings status field lists the connections in use.

Orders and staging:

  • With the TWS Read-Only API setting on, an order that leaves the open-orders list now reports RTD error: final status unconfirmed — TWS's Read-Only API refuses completed orders; uncheck it and reconnect in its Status cell instead of its last status. (TWS does not tell a read-only connection whether the order filled or was canceled.)
  • Clearing a StageOrder formula that staged an order and typing the identical formula again now stages a new order (1.1.2 could refuse it as a duplicate). Undo after Delete, or an IF that switches the formula back on, stages the same way.
  • Order polls now run on StreamXLS's own clock, about every 12 seconds at the default Order refresh (seconds) setting; previously, in a workbook with no market-data formulas, they could run a minute apart.

Market data:

  • After a Max tickers reached refusal, StreamXLS now asks TWS again on its own (up to ten refused requests every five minutes, three attempts each, then hourly), and once a line is free the next attempt streams. A quote request TWS never answers — no data, no error — is also periodically retried.
  • After the day's close on a real-time line, LastOrClose and MarketPrice now take the settle TWS sends instead of keeping the last trade, and a weekend reconnect no longer rolls them back to Thursday's settle.
