Stremio Platform
Windows
Describe the bug
I have both v5 and v4 Stremio applications along with Stremio Service installed on my PC. About 2 months ago the v5 application stopped playing videos saying "Stream is not supported" and directing for external app. It downloads a .m3u file that I can stream on MPC-HC or VLC just fine. This happens for all content I try to watch from any provider (I use torrent sources). The v4 application, web.stremio.com or app.strem.io work just fine.
What I notice is that every time I open v5 app, it has a yellow banner saying "Streaming server is not available" with an install button that has link to: https://www.stremio.com/download-service. I have this installed and running it doesnt make a change for anything either.
Another thing I noticed in the settings is that default URL http://127.0.01:11470 has a status "Error". I added different ports and selecting any of them gives error as well. The same default URL http://127.0.01:11470 on v4 application settings seem to not give error and the application plays videos internally just fine. Even when I open only v5 app, opening the default URL on my browser directs to v4 shell as seen in this link:
https://app.strem.io/shell-v4.4/?streamingServer=http%3A%2F%2F127.0.0.1%3A11470#/
The issue started around the time I installed Docker in my PC for WSL. However, closing Docker completely doesnt change anything for Stremio v5 along with reinstalling the application itself. I am not sure about if its related at all.
To Reproduce
- Launch Stremio v5 on a Windows machine (with Docker Desktop/WSL2 installed?)
- Observe the "Streaming server is not available" banner.
- Go to Settings > Streaming.
- Observe the "Error" status next to the local server URL.
- Attempt to play any torrent-based content; it fails with "Stream is not supported."
Expected behavior
The internal streaming server should bind to the local port successfully, and playback should occur within the v5 application.
