@StrikeZoneVR-hub StrikeZoneVR-hub released this 22 Oct 09:27

Beta 1.1: Quest Link fixed, world size, no head bob, and your body turns with you.

Download

OutlastVR-Beta-1.1.zip (below). Unzip it and copy everything into Outlast\Binaries\Win64, next to OLGame.exe (replace the old files when updating). Then run Outlast1VR.exe and choose PLAY IN VR. Full steps are on the project page and in the included README.txt.

PC VR only: SteamVR, Virtual Desktop or Quest Link / Air Link. There is no standalone Quest support. You need your own copy of Outlast on Steam.

Fixes

  • Quest Link / Air Link: fixed the game showing as flat screens floating in a void, sitting below you, or jumping to wherever you looked after a recenter. Link players: please tell us if it works for you now.
  • Doors: grabbing a handle and then turning or walking away no longer leaves Miles's arm stuck bent, and closing doors no longer shove Miles out of the way.
  • Camcorder: Miles's empty hand no longer sticks out in front of you when you look through the camcorder.
  • Sprint + A vault works again, and squeezing the left grip while running with your hand at your hip sprints instead of grabbing nearby edges.
  • Drifting thumbsticks on some SteamVR controllers no longer turn or walk you by themselves.

New

  • World size: a new slider. Things look too big or "zoomed in"? Lower it. 100% is true size, and the 3D now uses your own eye spacing, read from your headset.
  • No head bob by default, walking and running (adjustable in settings).
  • Body turns with you: turn your real body or chair and after a moment Miles turns to match, so his arms and the hip camcorder stay lined up. Far less recentering.
  • Big battery gauge while you film, with your spare battery count.
  • Auto ledge grab (optional): jump toward a ledge and Miles catches it himself, like the original game.
  • Camcorder button mode (optional, for seated play): squeeze the right grip to raise or lower the camcorder.
  • Recenter = click both thumbsticks. A reminder now shows when you start playing.
  • Close-up objects are easier to focus on.
  • The camcorder in your hand keeps the Beta 1.0 hold. A "real camcorder" hold is being worked on for a later update.

All of it is in VR SETTINGS, in the launcher and in the game (hold the left grip and press Menu).

Controls reminder

Hold the left grip and press B for Miles's notebook, Y for documents, X for notes, or Menu for the VR settings. No d-pad or thumbrest needed.

Known issues (beta)

  • Some scripted scenes can bend Miles's arm oddly for a moment.

This time, you hold the camera. The first public beta of Outlast VR: a free PC VR mod for Outlast (2013) with full head and hand tracking.

Download

OutlastVR-Beta-1.0.zip (below). Unzip it and copy everything into Outlast\Binaries\Win64, next to OLGame.exe.

What's in Beta 1.0

  • Full head and hand tracking: look and lean with your body, and Miles's arms move with yours.
  • The camcorder in your hand: take it from your hip, then raise it to your eye to film, zoom and see in night vision.
  • Hands-on doors: push them open with your hand, or grab the handle and swing them.
  • Climbing: go up ledges and ladders hand over hand, and vault low walls and tables.
  • Room-scale walking: Miles walks with you.
  • Comfort options: smooth or snap turning, a level horizon, less head bob, real crouching, and a film grain on/off switch.
  • A launcher that installs and uninstalls everything, with VR settings in the launcher and in the game (left grip + Menu).
  • Smoother loading: the stutter when new areas stream in is gone, and the frame rate is optimised.

Known issues (beta)

  • Some scripted scenes can bend Miles's arm oddly for a moment.
  • A door closing on you can give you a small push.
  • Some players notice slight double vision. Recenter with both stick clicks.
