The first public release of Ada, an AI-native desktop operating system: a desktop of its own on Ubuntu 26.04, with an assistant that works in it beside you.

Ada Setup for Windows: installs Ada next to Windows, your files shared between both AdaSetup.exe
Ada Setup for Linux (Ubuntu, Debian): installs Ada next to the Linux you use now ada-setup_1.0.0_amd64.deb

Next to Windows or Linux, run Ada Setup: it makes room, downloads the image and starts Ada's installer at the next restart. To install from a USB stick instead, write the image to one of 16 GB or more (balenaEtcher, or Rufus in DD mode), start the PC from it, and Ada's own installer opens: choose a disk (all of it, or its free space) and your account, and she installs herself. You need a 64-bit PC with UEFI and at least 45 GB of free disk; 16 GB of memory is recommended. Once installed, Ada updates herself: Settings → Software Update.

What's in it

  • Ada, the assistant, in the island at the top of the screen: type or say "Hey Ada". She reads and acts in your apps, browses on her own, hands coding work to Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI or Antigravity, and keeps a memory you can see. She runs on the plan you already have (ChatGPT, Claude or Google AI) or your own API keys; autocomplete and dictation run on the device.
  • A desktop of its own: a Rust compositor with liquid glass, the dock, Control Center, widgets, Flow and the window switcher, a lock screen with depth and Face Unlock, touchpad gestures.
  • Apps: Files, Browser, Terminal, Notes, Photos, Camera, Player, Viewer, Studio, Task Manager, Settings.
  • Windows programs open through Wine and GE-Proton in Ada's own windows.
  • Updates that can't break it: signed releases install beside the running one, switch at the next restart, and roll back by themselves if the desktop doesn't come up.

This image carries update 2026.10.18.1826, the same build installed PCs receive from the update channel.

Good to know

This is a first release. It has been used every day on a few laptops; expect rough edges on hardware it hasn't met yet, and please open an issue when something goes wrong. Security problems: report them privately.

Ada is Apache-2.0, with a few parts under their own licenses (THIRD-PARTY.md).
