Control Spotify from a local Codex task on Windows without switching windows. Play songs, library playlists and Liked Songs, queue a song, pause or resume, skip tracks and adjust volume.

Changes

  • Safer uninstall: Enter, No and unrecognized answers preserve authorization data. Installation files remain on disk.
  • Signed plugin manifest checked before installation and MCP startup.
  • English installer, uninstaller and authorization messages, with English and Turkish setup guides.
  • Offline queue, integrity, startup and uninstall regression checks, with Windows and Ubuntu CI.

Download and install

Download Spotify-Background-Controller-1.3.2.zip. Extract all files to a permanent folder and double-click Spotify Background Controller - Install.cmd. Restart Codex, open a local task and follow the English setup guide or Türkçe kurulum rehberi to provide your Spotify Client ID and authorize your account.

Windows, Codex, an available Node.js runtime, Spotify Premium and a Spotify developer application are required. The package does not bundle or install Codex or Node. Keep the extracted folder in place after installation.

Verification and limits

The installer ZIP contains 21 files. The source archives also include development files and tests.

The signature covers plugin.json, not every file in the package. Authorization tokens are encrypted using Windows DPAPI for the current Windows user. The package contains no private signing key or account authorization data.

Automated tests use simulated Spotify responses; they do not establish live account playback. Whole-playlist queueing is not implemented. Voice requests require voice support in your Codex session.
