v0.3.4-beta

Choose a tag to compare

@Supermagnum Supermagnum released this 14 Sep 19:30
v0.3.4-beta
96e981b

Summary

Car/truck route start and destination snaps now stay on the literal nearest routable node instead of jumping to a better-surface paved road up to ~750–1000 m away. Intermediate via points still prefer better surface, but only within 150 m of the nearest giant-component node.

Highlights

Last-mile snap fix

  • Endpoints no longer apply surface preference across the full snap budget (rural gravel/service driveways stay put).
  • Via surface preference is capped at nearest + 150 m (SURFACE_VIA_SNAP_SLACK_M).
  • Giant-component preference unchanged (courtyard islands still lose to the public network).

v0.3.3-beta

Choose a tag to compare

@Supermagnum Supermagnum released this 13 Sep 21:30
7300181

DATEX now applies at initial plan (with a short pre-plan refresh and a max-age cache guard), plus motor surface routing tweaks, clearer pack-server failures, and basemap label/glacier fixes. Sideload APKs are under compiled/ (also on dev until merged to main).

versionName 0.3.3-beta / versionCode 8
Release APK: compiled/navi-release.apk

Highlights
DATEX on the first plan

Initial plan_car_route applies Block/Penalize impacts from {data_dir}/datex_cache when the plugin stamp is present.
Disk snapshots older than 15 minutes (3× the 300s poll) are ignored so stale closures cannot linger after a cold start.
Before the first motor/bike plan of a process (plugin on), the app waits up to 3s for a DATEX refresh, then plans with whatever cache is usable; steady-state ~300s polling is unchanged.
UI: planning banner may briefly show “refreshing traffic…”.

Motor surface routing

Prefer asphalt with higher posted maxspeed over shorter gravel@60 where appropriate.
Cap rough-surface speed soft-cost so gravel-only corridors stay routable.

Pack server / downloads

Distinguish connectivity failure kinds and “region not published” in catalog status.
Mark download/convert progress complete when work finishes early (no stuck ~85% UI).

Basemap / search

Planned route line draws below road and trail name labels.
Glacier fills paint above national park so overlap stays cyan.
Larger glacier/military names earlier via tile min_zoom (pois layer floor z8; amenities still gated at z16).
Planet PMTiles URL default stays empty in prefs/UI seed.
Purge orphan FTS5 rows on region clear via rebuild.

Install notes

Sideload the signed release APK (adb install -r compiled/navi-release.apk).
Enable the DATEX plugin (opt-in) if you want roadworks/closures on plan; Wi‑Fi-only still applies when that setting is on.
Optional: verify compiled/SHA256SUMS / SHA256SUMS.asc.

v0.3.2-beta

Choose a tag to compare

@Supermagnum Supermagnum released this 11 Sep 10:15
48f6003

Summary

Graph pack v8 with baked road surface quality, smarter motor soft costs, and a server-first path when upgrading indexed packs. Sideload APKs are under compiled/.

Highlights

Graph pack v8 — surface quality

  • Indexed packs store edge_surface_quality at convert/bake time.
  • Motor profiles soft-cost marginal/poor surfaces and missing maxspeed (Car / Motorcycle / Truck / MobileHome).
  • Pack-hit planning uses baked surfaces; tighter A* heuristic.

Prefer pack server, then local rebuild

  1. Download a compatible pack from navi-server (navigate-me.duckdns.org).
  2. Fall back to on-device PBF convert only if unavailable / format-incompatible.
  • Background refresh and Tools → Refresh indexed maps both use this order.
  • Logs/UI: path=server_download vs path=local_rebuild.
  • Format gate runs on the navi-manifest before multi-GB downloads.

Install / migrate notes

  • Run Refresh indexed maps (or wait for background refresh) after install.
  • navi-server follow-up: live packs are still graph_format_version 6. Until v8 is published, the client tries the server, rejects early, then rebuilds locally.

Navi v0.3.1-beta

Choose a tag to compare

@Supermagnum Supermagnum released this 10 Sep 14:05
80f5c88

Follow-up beta after v0.3.0-beta.

Build: versionName 0.3.1-beta, versionCode 7

Highlights

  • Nearby attractions (Map / Tools → Plugins; off by default): quiet top-right HUD chip for attractions, fishing, and craft alcohol (incl. cider) in an 850 m / ±30° heading cone. Open-now filtering; optional Hide when hours unknown. Not a hazard warning — separate from Look forward (300 m). Spec: docs/plugins/poi-lookahead-cone-spec.md.
  • tourism=artwork classified as a General POI (sculptures / murals / installations in search and the look-ahead cone).
  • Download progress HUD: with Tools open, the percent line appears once in the process footer (no duplicate under Tools status / map toast).

From v0.3.0-beta (still in this line)

  • Up to 4 Via stops; OSM practical/advisory/minspeed ETA; graph packs v7 (rebuild indexed maps if needed); offline packs / DATEX / craft POIs from the 0.3.x-alpha path.

Install (signed release APK)

Prefer the upload-key-signed release build (not debug).

  1. Download navi-release.apk from this tag (or the latest dev/compiled until the tag lands).
  2. Optional check:
    cd compiled
    sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS
    gpg --verify SHA256SUMS.asc SHA256SUMS

Navi v0.3.0-beta

Choose a tag to compare

@Supermagnum Supermagnum released this 10 Sep 11:21
v0.3.0-beta
80f5c88

First beta after the v0.3.x-alpha line.
Build: versionName 0.3.0-beta, versionCode 6

Highlights

  • Up to 4 Via stops in Route planning (chip shows Via n/4; list with Remove / Clear all; map long-press Add as Via). Off-route replan keeps remaining vias.
  • OSM speed tags for trip ETA: prefers maxspeed:practical, then posted maxspeed, then maxspeed:advisory, then highway fallback. minspeed floors motor ETA and excludes those edges for foot/bicycle. Live HUD / speed-camera limits still honour maxspeed:conditional.
  • Graph packs format v7 — use Tools → Rebuild indexed maps (or re-download) if an older pack is still installed.
  • Earlier 0.3.x-alpha work remains: offline packs, multi-stem corridor plans, craft/alcohol POIs, motor craft/fishing breaks, DATEX / pack-server path.

Install (signed release APK)

Prefer the upload-key-signed release build (not debug).

  1. Download navi-release.apk from this tag (or main/compiled).
  2. Optional check:
    cd compiled
    sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS
    gpg --verify SHA256SUMS.asc SHA256SUMS

v0.3.2-alpha

Choose a tag to compare

@Supermagnum Supermagnum released this 09 Sep 15:30
v0.3.2-alpha
861fe3c

Current Latest download build: v0.3.2-alpha (versionName 0.3.2, versionCode 5). Source tag: v0.3.2-alpha. APKs under this release and compiled/ on main match that build.

Highlights (0.3.2)

  • Broader craft-alcohol POI tags (cider, wine, spirits shops and craft=*)
  • POI look-ahead cone plugin spec (docs only)

Also in this line (0.3.1)

  • Blank offline map fix (DEM vs vector basemap)
  • Download-region order: packs, then place index, then basemap
  • Launch-time resume for incomplete download phases
  • Tools process footer with Ready!
  • Route menu no longer restarts planning when reopened

Install

Sideload navi-release.apk from this release or from compiled/ on main.
Optional integrity: sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS and gpg --verify SHA256SUMS.asc SHA256SUMS.

Verify APK signing

apksigner verify --print-certs navi-release.apk

Navi v0.3.0-alpha

Choose a tag to compare

@Supermagnum Supermagnum released this 09 Sep 04:01
v0.3.0-alpha
bd95e9a

Current Latest download build: v0.3.2-alpha (versionName 0.3.2, versionCode 5). Source tag: v0.3.2-alpha. APKs under this release and compiled/ on main match that build.

Highlights (0.3.2)

  • Motor breaks can suggest craft brewery and fishing stops
  • Broader craft-alcohol POI tags (cider, wine, spirits shops and craft=*)
  • POI look-ahead cone plugin spec (docs only)

Also in this line (0.3.1)

  • Blank offline map fix (DEM vs vector basemap)
  • Download-region order: packs, then place index, then basemap
  • Launch-time resume for incomplete download phases
  • Tools process footer with Ready!
  • Route menu no longer restarts planning when reopened

Install

Sideload navi-release.apk from this release or from compiled/ on main.
Optional integrity: sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS and gpg --verify SHA256SUMS.asc SHA256SUMS.

Verify APK signing

apksigner verify --print-certs navi-release.apk

Known limitations

Alpha quality; progress bar still does not distinguish stalled vs nearly-finished phases. No F-Droid store build yet. Existing on-device POI packs need re-index to pick up new craft-alcohol tag matches.

## Navi v0.2.0-alpha

Choose a tag to compare

@Supermagnum Supermagnum released this 01 Sep 04:49
v0.2.0-alpha
46d8d9d

First signed, tagged release. Previously the only distributable artifact was
a debug-cert APK checked into the repo with no version reference — this
release fixes that: it's built and signed with the project's own upload key,
checksummed, and provenance-signed with GPG.

Highlights

Region-ownership lock (fixes concurrent-conversion RAM stall)
Background PBF conversion (graph tiling, POI + barrier extraction, wetlands)
and the live route-planning PBF fallback could previously run concurrently
against the same region, each materializing large in-memory structures
independently. On low-RAM devices this caused native heap/swap exhaustion
and made the converter appear frozen indefinitely.

Fixed with a region-keyed lock (in-process registry + sibling lock file,
mirrored on the convert checkpoint so state survives a force-stop):

  • A second background convert of a region already in progress now refuses
cleanly instead of running alongside the first.
  • A live plan needing an unbuilt region now waits on convert's lock instead
of starting a second PBF build — closing an asymmetry where convert
already yielded to live plans, but not the reverse.
  • Fixture and production PBF paths for the same region now resolve to the
same lock (keyed on region identity, not filesystem path), closing a gap
where a test fixture path could bypass the guard entirely.
  • Stale locks left by a killed/force-stopped process are detected and
cleared on next acquisition, along with any leaked graph spill files from
    that process.

Progress bar known-issue documented
Added a README note explaining that phase progress percentages are set once
at phase entry, not updated continuously — so a stalled phase currently
looks identical to a nearly-finished one. Expected phase durations for a
reference region are included as a sanity baseline.

Signed release build
This release is signed with the project's own upload key (not the Android
debug certificate). Checksums and a detached GPG signature are provided
below for verification independent of the Android signature itself.

Verifying this release

apksigner verify --print-certs navi-v0.2.0-alpha.apk
gpg --verify SHA256SUMS.asc SHA256SUMS
sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS

Known limitations

  • Progress bar does not distinguish "phase almost done" from "phase stalled"
    (see README, Known issues).
  • No F-Droid distribution yet — this release is a prerequisite step toward
    that, not F-Droid-built or F-Droid-signed.
  • Alpha quality: expect rough edges outside the areas covered above.
