SolidSeas 0.2.340

Choose a tag to compare

@Syracuse3DPrinting Syracuse3DPrinting released this 17 Oct 05:50

SolidSeas 0.2.340 adds a Windows installer.

SolidSeas is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or connected to Dassault Systèmes, Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks Corporation or Siemens Industry Software Inc.

Download

  • SolidSeas-Setup-0.2.340.exe: installs SolidSeas Viewer for you alone, with no administrator rights (an administrator can install it for everyone). It adds a Start menu entry and, if you ask, a desktop shortcut, and you remove it from Settings > Apps. Installing a newer version closes a running viewer first, and your settings stay when you uninstall. It is not code signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may warn the first time: choose More info, then Run anyway.
  • SolidSeas-Setup-0.2.340.exe.sha256: its checksum.

The single-file SolidSeasViewer.exe, the CAD Bridge and SolidCraft extension packages and the Qt sources are on 0.2.335.

Changes since 0.2.335

  • The installer, built and checked by the release workflow on every release: it installs, runs the viewer's self-test, and uninstalls before the file is attached. It installs the one-folder form of the viewer, which starts faster than the single file, and its Qt libraries are ordinary files you can replace, as THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt explains.
  • Upgrading while the viewer is open now closes it first instead of failing.

See the changelog for everything else.

If SolidSeas saves you time, you can buy the developer a coffee.

SolidSeas 0.2.335, the first public release

@Syracuse3DPrinting Syracuse3DPrinting released this 17 Oct 04:48

The first public release of SolidSeas: read, preview and convert SOLIDWORKS and other CAD files, with or without SOLIDWORKS.

SolidSeas is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or connected to Dassault Systèmes, Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks Corporation or Siemens Industry Software Inc. SOLIDWORKS is a registered trademark of Dassault Systèmes; Parasolid is a trademark of Siemens Industry Software Inc.

Downloads

  • SolidSeasViewer.exe: the desktop viewer for Windows, one program file, nothing to install. It is not code signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may warn the first time: choose More info, then Run anyway.
  • cad-bridge-0.2.335.zip (experimental): the CAD Bridge extension, which works with your own SOLIDWORKS installation. Add it from Tools > Extensions.
  • solidcraft-0.2.335.zip (experimental): the SolidCraft extension.
  • SHA256SUMS.txt: checksums for every file here.

The Python library and command line install from source; see Install.

What works today

  • Stable: the Python library, the solidseas command line and the local REST service.
  • Preview: SolidSeas Viewer: folder listing with thumbnails, properties, bills of materials, where used, 3D view, exports to STEP, STL and 3MF.
  • Experimental: drawings made from 3D parts (on by default, and every unreleased drawing is stamped PRELIMINARY), the modeling assistant and the extensions. Check experimental output before you rely on it, and report problems on the issues page.

The video export extension is not part of this release yet.

Licences

SolidSeas is under the Apache License 2.0. The viewer carries Qt and Qt for Python under the GNU LGPL version 3, and the licences of everything else it includes: Help > Licences shows them, and THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt explains each one. As the LGPL asks, the exact Qt 6.12.0 and Qt for Python 6.12.0 sources are attached here (qt-everywhere-src-6.12.0.tar.xz, pyside-setup-everywhere-src-6.12.0.zip), and BUNDLED-FILES.txt lists every library inside the program.
