This release gathers everything since v0.9.0 and brings 87 patches for Facebook 582.0.0.50.54, up from 86. The new one is Unlock app icons, which lets you pick any icon on Facebook's App icon page. New switches add a Watch history shortcut, keep a reel's time above its progress bar, stop link history in Facebook's browser and hold back camera roll processing. Saves whose only sound is xHE-AAC now get sound most players can play, and the Reported issues list below maps each report this release touches.

New in this release

  • New patch, Unlock app icons, under Appearance (issue #109). Facebook already carries every icon on its App icon page and keeps most of them for Facebook Plus. With the switch on you can pick any of them, and Facebook switches your home screen icon to it and keeps it when it restarts or you update Hushfacebook. Facebook puts its own icon back on the first start after an update, and the switch stops that. Turned off, your pick stays until the next update, so pick the blue icon first if you want it back sooner. It's in Manager's default selection with its switch off.

  • Stop link history in Facebook's browser, a new switch under Privacy that comes with Open links in external browser and starts on. Links that still open in Facebook's own browser, like Facebook's pages or any link on a phone with no other browser, aren't recorded for your link history or sent to Facebook as pages you visited. The browser just never builds its two link recorders, which is what it does when Facebook turns the feature off. Login, checkout and autofill keep working, and your Enhanced browsing setting stays as it is.

  • Hold back camera roll processing, a second switch in Hold back analytics uploads under Privacy, which starts off. The processing behind camera roll sharing suggestions goes through your photos and videos, runs Facebook's models on them and uploads photos with what it found, and another job tells Facebook how many photos and videos you have. Facebook's server decides whether they run, and the app asks one check before it schedules or runs the work. With the switch on that answer is no, so Facebook cancels the work it scheduled, and the count job is cancelled too. Photos you pick to post go another way and never ask it.

  • Show a reel's time, a new switch right below Keep the progress bar that starts on (issue #73). While the bar is kept, a reel's elapsed and total time stay above it and keep counting. Turn it off to see the time only while you drag, as before.

  • Watch history shortcut, a new switch under Menu that starts off (issue #114). Turn it on and holding Facebook's icon offers Watch history, the videos and reels you've watched, when there's room next to Facebook's own shortcuts. The Menu's Settings and privacy group gets a Watch history row too. Both open Facebook's Videos you've watched page.

Fixes

  • Open and Share on a finished save only answer their own buttons now. Another app on the phone could send Facebook the same request with a guessed file address and get it to open or share a video or photo Facebook had saved, with no tap from you.

  • When a piece of Hushfacebook fails to load, Facebook keeps running. An error like that at app start or while opening a screen used to close Facebook every time, and pausing Hushfacebook didn't help.

  • The Share sheet items to hide list closes with the settings page when you rotate the phone or Facebook closes the screen. It used to stay up over a window that was already gone, and it now follows the page's colors too.

  • On a Facebook build that reads the loop setting in a way the reel hook can't use, the play reels once switch is refused while patching. Before, that build's reel player would fail to load.

  • Share sheet items to hide calls Facebook's Muse item Muse. It showed up as "Share to hatch", Facebook's name for it inside the app.

  • A reel's link from Copy link loses the s=yWDuG2&fs=e Facebook 582 adds to every copied reel, as long as Sanitize sharing links is on. Those two only say the link was copied.

  • Open on a chosen tab set to Feeds opens the Feeds page again on Facebook 582 when your tab bar has no Feeds tab. The page showed for a moment and then Facebook jumped back to Home, because 582 treats its own Feeds links as links to Home. It now opens the page the way the Menu's Feeds row does.

  • With Material You theme in dark mode, the comments under a post take your palette on Facebook 582. Each comment row draws its own gray box there, which the theme didn't reach, so the list stayed Facebook's gray while the rest of the sheet changed (issue #37).

  • With Material You theme in dark mode, the box under a link post's picture, where the site name and title sit, takes your palette too. On some accounts Facebook sends that box a gray of its own, which the theme didn't reach, so it stayed gray in the middle of an otherwise themed post (issue #37).

  • Accent color reaches the blues Facebook's server picks for a screen. A profile's Add to story, Message and Sign up buttons, links in a profile's bio and Marketplace's For you tab and location name now take your color in light and dark mode. They stayed Facebook's blue before, while the tab bar and the chips around them changed. Facebook blue and Pause leave them as Facebook draws them.

  • In light mode, Accent color now tints the pale blue behind a selected chip, like Marketplace's For you pill. That fill stayed Facebook's light blue while the text on it changed, so a teal label sat on a blue pill. It's now a light shade of your color at the same brightness, and the label stays at least as readable as Facebook's own.

  • After you update Hushfacebook, the settings page no longer shows a line like "Hushfacebook 0.7.1 targets Facebook 581" left over from the last release check. That line came from a check made before the update and named the older release's Facebook build. It now waits for the next check.

  • The Mark as seen button eye sits in a story's top row now, next to the arrow and the three dots, instead of floating over the picture (issue #117). It also hides while you swipe to the next person's stories or drag a story down to close it, and comes back once the story stops moving. Before, it stayed put at the top of the screen through both.

  • Keep the progress bar works on every reel now (issue #73). Short reels, which Facebook gives no bar at all, get one too, and their caption moves up to leave room for it like a longer reel's does, so the bar no longer sits on the caption. The bar also moves smoothly. Facebook only moved it about ten times a second, so it crept along in little jumps.

  • Open the Messenger app finds a Messenger installed under another package name, like a copy made with Clone app, and the Get Messenger card stays hidden for it (issue #116). The top bar's Messenger icon used to look only for Meta's own package, so with a renamed copy it fell through to Facebook's Chats.

  • Saved reels whose only sound is xHE-AAC play with sound in more players now (issue #14). Some gallery apps played them silent. Hushfacebook turns that sound into AAC-LC while it saves, also with Save videos other apps can open off, as long as your phone has an AAC encoder, and the picture keeps its full quality.

  • The Lock Facebook cover tells a screen reader that Facebook is locked, marks its heading, and reads the reason line out when it changes.

Other changes

  • The README tells people who patched in Manager's Expert mode before how to pick up the patches that are new to the default selection, since Manager keeps an Expert selection as it was.

  • Clearer wording in a few places. The Tab to open on summary names the switch you'd actually turn off (Hide the Friends tab) instead of the patch name. The save toast for a video WhatsApp may refuse says to open Downloads in Hushfacebook settings to fix it. One save toast got its missing period, and the Pause list spells "recolored" like the rest of the app.

  • The Messenger and Instagram rows under Links say what to pick on newer Android, where that app's Open by default page offers In the app and In your browser instead of an Open supported links switch. Picking In your browser for the official Messenger frees facebook.com and www.facebook.com, so they stay selected for Hushfacebook (issue #111).

  • Block ad telemetry also stops several of the ways Facebook sends your phone's advertising ID. The job that posts it with your limit-tracking choice is stopped, and so are the launch event that carries it next to your device id, the GraphQL report of it and the install event sent from the first login screen. Other apps on your phone that ask Facebook for the ID get the empty answer Facebook gives when Google Play services has none, and Facebook no longer logs which app asked. The code that registers ad views and clicks with Android's own ad measurement returns right away, and so do the check of that measurement's status and the test ad audience job. A Facebook build that moved one of these still gets the rest, and the patch log says which one kept running.

Reported issues

  • #109 Unlock the paid Facebook icons: the new Unlock app icons patch under Appearance lets you pick any icon on Facebook's App icon page.

  • #114 Shortcuts for Reels and Watch history: the new Watch history shortcut switch under Menu adds a Watch history shortcut to Facebook's icon and a Watch history row to the Menu.

  • #73 Keep the reel progress bar visible: Keep the progress bar covers short reels too and moves smoothly, and the new Show a reel's time switch keeps the elapsed and total time above it.

  • #117 Mark as seen button glitch: the eye sits in the story's top row and hides while a story is moving.

  • #37 Material You in dark mode: the comments under a post and the box under a link post's picture take your palette.

  • #14 Saved videos playing silent in some gallery apps: saves whose only sound is xHE-AAC get AAC-LC sound, with the picture at full quality.

  • #116 Opens Chats instead of Messenger: the Messenger icon now finds a Messenger installed under another package name, like a Clone app copy.

  • #111 Links from Messenger opening in Messenger's browser: the Messenger and Instagram rows under Links say what to pick on newer Android so facebook.com links stay with Hushfacebook.

  • Already in Hushfacebook and seen working since the last release: #84 Hide the tab bar while scrolling (AMOLED too), #65 the Material You colors on the tab bar, #98 Share the post's own link, #104 Hide group buttons in the share sheet and #107 Hide the Follow link on posts.

Behind the scenes

  • A release's notes can map the reported issues it touches. Bullets under a ### Reported issues heading in the CHANGELOG show up in their own Reported issues block, after the changes.

  • The release's index step now moves the Facebook build in the repository description along with the version and patch count. After the 582 port it had left the description on 581, and the release facts check refused the index push until it was set by hand.

The changelog has every earlier release too.

How to update

  1. Update Morphe Manager to 1.34.0 or newer, then refresh the Hushfacebook source.
  2. Patch Facebook 582.0.0.50.54. On most phones that's build 475417104, the arm64-v8a one. Phones with a 32-bit processor take build 475417036, the armeabi-v7a one.
  3. Install over your current patched Facebook with the manager's existing signing key. Keep that key so updates keep working.

The .mpp download is a patch bundle, not a Facebook APK. Installation instructions.

Look over a diagnostic report before you share it. The filter can still miss private text it doesn't recognize.

What was checked

Local checks passed: 2418 runtime tests and 870 patch tests with no failures, plus both Android lints and the release-script checks. All 87 patches applied without forcing to Facebook 582.0.0.50.54, both the arm64-v8a and the 32-bit build, and the only manifest changes are the four permission renames that let it install beside Meta's apps. I also patched 582 with every patch on an arm64 Samsung phone and on an emulator. Facebook opened signed in with no crash on both. On the phone the tab bar slid away while scrolling with the AMOLED theme, the Material You tab accent showed on the selected tab, Copy link gave a post's own link and the Follow link stayed off posts. On the emulator Play reels once stopped a reel on its last frame, the share sheet lost its group buttons, the Watch history shortcut opened Facebook's page and a save of a reel with only xHE-AAC sound played in Google Photos with sound.
