Beam v1.0.0 — Initial public release
Beam is now open source.
Highlights
- Browse and play video, audio, and photos from USB storage.
- Discover Beam Companion Server and compatible DLNA/UPnP servers on the local network.
- Play sidecar SRT and WebVTT subtitles.
- Resume playback from locally stored history.
- Navigate entirely with a Samsung TV remote.
- Use the HTML picture-in-picture overlay while browsing.
Downloads
- Beam TV (
.wgt): for Samsung Tizen TV developer-mode installation. Installation requirements vary by TV and certificate profile. - Beam Companion Server (
macOS arm64): shares selected folders with Beam over a trusted local network. The app is signed but not notarized; macOS may require Control-click → Open on first launch. - Source archives are generated automatically by GitHub.
Security
This release restricts media IDs to files discovered inside explicitly shared folders and blocks symbolic-link escapes. The regression suite covers shared-file access, crafted external-path IDs, and symlink traversal.
Beam Companion Server is intended for trusted local networks and must not be exposed directly to the public Internet.
Samsung TV Store status
The TV app has been submitted to Samsung for certification for selected 2025 / Tizen 9.0 model groups. Store availability depends on Samsung review and is not part of this GitHub release.
