What changed

• Dragging a converted result no longer triggers the Island's outer Finder input target.
• Output-folder access remains active after the first drag, so the second and later files can be dragged out normally.
• Image results are decoded into real content thumbnails with ImageIO before falling back to Quick Look.
• Newly published JPEG and PNG outputs no longer fall back to generic document icons because of a redundant file-visibility preflight.
• Regression coverage now protects internal-versus-external drag routing, sequential drag sessions, security-scoped output access, and image thumbnail decoding.

File Island 0.3.2 focuses on first-run clarity and a reliable output handoff. Converted files now remain available in a persistent native result shelf, where they can be previewed, selected, copied, revealed in Finder, or dragged directly into Finder and compatible applications.

• Added a one-time, nonactivating Island guide for Finder drag-and-drop and Command-O.
• Added a native result shelf with Quick Look thumbnails and compact filenames.
• Small result sets are centered; larger batches remain horizontally scrollable with a persistent compact scrollbar.
• Single and multi-selection results can be copied, revealed in Finder, or dragged out with native file URLs.
• Sequential drag-out remains available until the user explicitly dismisses the result shelf.
• Output-folder security-scoped access is retained while results remain visible.
• Published result URLs are no longer rejected by a second sandbox readability lookup during collection-view reuse.

File Island 0.3.1 is a focused interaction update for mixed-folder workflows and Split for Sharing controls. It keeps the v0.3.0 conversion and runtime boundary unchanged while making the two recording-critical paths easier to discover and operate.

What changed

• Mixed folders now show every non-empty image, video, audio, and unsupported group as an always-visible compact control with its file count.
• The active media group has a clear accent selection state.
• Switching groups opens that media type's own conversion parameters while preserving the independently configured image, video, and audio intents.
• Split-for-Sharing size and duration controls now use substantially longer slider tracks.
• Both sliders show five reference ticks and localized lower/upper range labels with units.
• General settings can optionally copy a successful one-input/one-output conversion to the macOS Clipboard for pasting into Finder or compatible apps.
• The success summary confirms when the output file was copied; batches and sharing splits never replace the Clipboard automatically.
• The compact Island remains 600 × 188 points in the action state.

Split boundaries

The v0.3 fast path accepts MP4 or MOV containing H.264 video and either AAC audio or no audio. It copies encoded streams at verified keyframes, so it preserves media quality and completes much faster than re-encoding.

At least one positive limit is required. The App uses decimal units (1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes, 1 GB = 1,000 MB) and lets the user choose seconds, minutes, or hours. The CLI accepts exact --max-bytes and/or --max-duration-seconds values with --mode fast-keyframe-copy.

If source keyframes are too far apart to satisfy the selected limits, File Island fails closed instead of exceeding the limit or silently lowering quality. Precise re-encoded splitting and named platform rules are not included in this release.

File Island 0.1.0 — unsigned early access

File Island is a local-first macOS image and video converter that lives around the top of the display. Drag files or an ordinary folder from Finder into the Island, choose format and size settings, then convert into one previously authorized output folder.

Important: This build is ad-hoc signed. It is not signed with Apple Developer ID and has not been notarized by Apple. macOS will normally block the first launch. Download only from this official GitHub Release, verify the attached SHA-256 value, and follow Apple's Open Anyway instructions. Do not disable Gatekeeper.

• managed Macs may prevent the Gatekeeper Open Anyway override;
• this early-access DMG has no automatic updater.

Install

1. Download FileIsland-0.1.0-unsigned.dmg and its .sha256 file.
2. In Terminal, run shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/FileIsland-0.1.0-unsigned.dmg and compare it with the attached checksum.
3. Open the DMG and drag File Island into Applications.
4. Try to open File Island once. When macOS blocks it, open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to Security, and choose Open Anyway for File Island.
5. Confirm only if the file came from this official Release and its checksum matched.
6. Choose an output folder the first time you start a conversion.
