The resting face can move less.

EYE_MOTION normal|calm|still sets how the idle face moves and EYE_MOTION? reads it; the device answers TABY:EYE_MOTION {"mode":…}, keeps the choice in NVS across restarts, returns to normal on a factory reset, and lists eye_motion in INFO's capabilities.

  • normal plays the idle loop as drawn (the default, so nothing changes unless asked).
  • calm blinks and holds the centred face for a few seconds, with the small tilt now and then; the long side-to-side looks never play.
  • still keeps the eyes in the middle and only blinks.

Only the resting face changes; listening, working and talking play as drawn. It reorders frames of the clip each board already has, so both boards get it with no new assets. The Taby desktop app offers it in Settings → Physical Taby → Eye movement (app 1.0.11 and later).

Also since 1.1.0: an animation the board lacks is ignored instead of answered with an error.

Supported hardware:

  • Waveshare ESP32-S3-Touch-AMOLED-1.64, V1 hardware
  • Waveshare ESP32-S3-Touch-AMOLED-1.32, original round board

Both bundles contain Physical Taby firmware 1.2.0 and the matching display assets. The installer verifies the selected board, hardware revision, flash layout, bundle hashes, and post-write readback. It preserves the device NVS settings and factory identity partitions.

Each bundle's manifest.json records source_commit 2b8d584 and source_dirty: false, so what is here can be rebuilt from the tag.

The 1.64-inch V2 revision is not supported yet. Follow INSTALL.md and confirm the exact board before flashing.

Physical Taby firmware 1.1.0

Holding the face now talks to Taby.

Until this release the firmware reported TOUCH_SIGNAL, a count of short presses. TOUCH_TAP_MAX_US is 700 ms, so a hold incremented nothing at all and the desktop had no way to learn that one had happened.

GESTURE_SIGNAL answers {"signal":n,"gesture":"none|tap|hold_start|hold_end"}. The counter moves only on a new gesture, the way CHOICE_SIGNAL does, so a dropped poll costs nothing and the device queues nothing. A hold is two gestures: hold_start fires at the threshold while the finger is still down, so listening begins when the hold begins, and hold_end fires on release — including when a press is suppressed mid-hold, so the desktop can never be left listening.

The device also reports touch and gesture in its capabilities, so a desktop asks what the board can do rather than guessing from a version number. Older firmware simply offers no gestures; nothing half-works.

Supported hardware:

  • Waveshare ESP32-S3-Touch-AMOLED-1.64, V1 hardware
  • Waveshare ESP32-S3-Touch-AMOLED-1.32, original round board

Taby 1.64 print pack 1.0.0

@lloyd-december lloyd-december released this 05 Sep 09:35

Printable case files supplied for the 1.64-inch rectangular Taby. The round 1.32-inch case is coming soon.

Download taby-1.64-print-pack-1.0.0.zip for the three STL parts, complete 3MF project, individual/all-parts G-code, preview, print metadata, and license. The SHA-256 file verifies the download.

The G-code targets Bambu Lab P1S with a 0.4 mm nozzle and PLA (15% infill). The 3MF selects Bambu Lab A1 mini with a 0.4 mm nozzle (25% infill). Slice the project or STLs for your actual printer; these profiles are not interchangeable.

The eight supplied design/toolpath files are preserved byte-for-byte. Native CAD/STEP and assembly instructions were not supplied. Exact PCB revision fit has not been independently recorded; V2 fit is not established. The model is available with prototype validation status.

This is a print-files release, not a firmware update.
