v0.2.0: Android.

Super Mario All-Stars (SNES): Super Mario Bros., The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario Bros. 3, now on Android phones and tablets too. Free.

What's new in this version

  • Android: SuperMarioAllStars-Android.apk for 64-bit phones and tablets (Android 7 and up). An on-screen SNES controller sits beside the picture (it hides when you connect a controller), and the ☰ button, the Back gesture or a controller's Home button opens the menu: cheats, sound, save and load states, reset, and About. It runs at full speed with plenty of room to spare even on a budget phone (tested on a Galaxy A16).
  • Not on Google Play. To install: download the APK on your phone, open it, allow your browser or file app to "Install unknown apps" if Android asks, then tap Install. The first time you open it, tap Choose file and pick your game file (a .zip with it inside works too).

Download for your device:

  • Mac (Apple chip or Intel, macOS 11+): SuperMarioAllStars-Mac.zip, signed and notarized by Apple
  • Windows (64-bit): SuperMarioAllStars-Windows.zip
  • Linux (64-bit, most desktops from 2020 on): SuperMarioAllStars-Linux.tar.gz
  • Android (64-bit, Android 7+): SuperMarioAllStars-Android.apk

You need your own copy of the game: Super Mario All-Stars (USA) (Super Mario All-Stars - 25th Anniversary).sfc, the 2010 25th Anniversary re-release. The 1993 cartridge, plain "Super Mario All-Stars (USA)", is a different file and won't work.

No game data ships with these downloads; the game asks for your file the first time.

What's in it

  • A real Mac, Windows, Linux and Android program with crisp whole-number scaling. Super Mario Bros. and The Lost Levels are mostly translated into native code; Super Mario Bros. 2 and 3 run the game's original code in a built-in interpreter, at full speed
  • A launcher (desktop) to set display, sound, controls and cheats before you play
  • In-game menu (Esc on desktop, ☰ on Android): settings, save and load states, reset, About
  • Volume and a mute switch for each of the Super Nintendo's eight sound voices
  • Cheats: infinite lives (all four games), stop the clock, full hearts (Super Mario Bros. 2), start every level powered up (Fire Mario, or Raccoon Mario in Super Mario Bros. 3)
  • Controllers just work: Xbox, PlayStation 3/4/5, Switch Pro and Joy-Con, 8BitDo, 2,000+ more, and any USB pad; a second controller plays as player 2

Made by Maddie at Tanooki Studios. Making apps (including some decomps) is how I pay my bills. If this game brought you some nostalgia and you lost more lives in World 8 than you'd like to admit, feel free to drop me a tiny tip. It really helps!
