🎨 Color themes

Before, depending on your color theme, Visual Studio could end up looking wonky or just straight up hide the window backdrop. Now, Mica Visual Studio edits Visual Studio's color theme resources allowing for all color themes to allow at least have some level of transparency to show the applied backdrop.

This new system also means that many elements have to be manually modified to remove their background (especially in tool windows). If you find an element that doesn't have its background removed, please open an issue using the Background removal request template.

🪟 Window filtering options

Mica Visual Studio now has an additional window type for dialog windows. This allows you to have more control over what window gets which preferences. To learn about the differences between all three window types, see Main vs Tool vs Dialog windows.

⚙️ Settings

Mica Visual Studio now applies updated preferences to all windows without having to reopen them as opposed to just the main window. This allows you experiment with different preferences easily.

This update also revives the theme option, allowing you to set the theme of the backdrop. For documentation about this setting, see Theme. Another option added is the app theme. For documentation about this setting, see App theme.

🪲 Bug fixes

  • Added an error message when Mica Visual Studio fails to start
  • Fixed laggy resizing
  • Fixed whiteouts (after e.g. theme changing) where the entire IDE becomes white
  • Improved text fidelity. This is most apparent when using materials that show their behinds (i.e. Acrylic, (Solid) Glass)
  • Removed duplicate captions buttons (#1)
  • Possible fix for issues #2 & #3, when the backdrop is barely visible
  • Possible fix for #8, when opening a file at startup results in no backdrop being applied
