How to Run a JAR File Using Java

These instructions will guide you on how to run a JAR (Java Archive) file using the Java runtime environment.

Prerequisites

  1. Ensure that you have Java installed on your system. You can check if Java is installed by running the following command in your terminal or command prompt:
java -version

If Java is not installed, download and install the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) from the official Oracle website or use an open-source Java distribution like OpenJDK.

Running the JAR File

  1. Open your command prompt or terminal.

  2. Navigate to the directory where your JAR file is located using the cd (change directory) command. For example, if your JAR file is downloaded into you desktop folder, then you can navigate to that folder by running:

cd /path/to/desktop

Replace `/path/to/desktop` with the actual path to your JAR file`s directory.
  1. Once you are in the directory containing the JAR file, you can run it using the following command:
java -jar ip.jar
  1. Press Enter to execute the command.

The Java Virtual Machine (JVM) will then execute the JAR file, and your Java application should start running.
