🫥 Truly invisible hotspots — or visible ones, your choice

When you draw a link area on a picture, the dialog now has a switch: keep the box invisible. Leave it on (the default) and the spot shows nothing at all, not even when the mouse is over it — the picture stays exactly as it looks, and clicking still works. Turn it off and the area gets a soft highlight so people can see there is something to click.

You can change this later: in link mode, click an existing area and the same dialog opens.

🌐 Web links: inside Tekinote or in the browser

A link to a web address now asks where it should open:

• Open inside Tekinote — the site becomes a page inside the app, where you can browse it and even draw on it. The same address reuses the same page instead of piling up new ones.
• Open in the browser — your normal browser takes over.

🔗 Picture links: your own invisible hotspots

• Link mode no longer paints every scanned word over the picture. You draw the area yourself: hold the mouse and drag a box anywhere on the image, and that spot becomes a link.
• Hotspots are invisible. The picture looks untouched; the area only lights up when the mouse is over it, and clicking opens the page.
• If the picture was scanned for text, the words inside the box are still used as the link's name — you just don't see boxes everywhere.

🐛 Link mode can be closed again

Pressing the chain button a second time (or Esc) now really leaves link mode. Before, the drawing layer covered the buttons and the mode got stuck.

🔗 Links on the writing inside a picture

Put a screenshot in a page, press the new link button on it, and every word Tekinote read in the picture becomes clickable.

• Click a word and choose where it goes: a new page named after that word, an existing page, or a web address.
• Prefer a bigger area? Drag a box anywhere on the picture; the words inside it become the label.
• Afterwards, clicking that spot in the picture opens the page — a screenshot of a list becomes a set of links into your own notes.
• Press the link button again to leave link mode; click a link while in link mode to change or remove it.

Word positions come from the same offline scan as the picture search, so scan a picture (or let it scan itself) before putting links on it.

▶️ Video links play inside the page

Paste a YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Vimeo or X link on an empty line — or use /video and paste the link — and it turns into a player right there. Add website now asks whether a video link should be a player or a normal website page.

🎬 Videos in your pages

Drop, paste or pick a video (/video) and it plays right inside the page — Shorts, Reels, TikToks, anything you saved from your phone.

• Portrait clips get a phone-shaped frame instead of filling the page; you can resize them like a photo.
• Save puts the original file back on your disk whenever you want it — Tekinote keeps the file itself, not a link, so it still plays with no internet.
• Videos are part of your automatic backups (up to 60 MB each) and are never uploaded anywhere.

🖼️ Hold the right mouse button to see a picture big

Press and hold the right mouse button on any picture — in a page, on a special day, a cover, even your profile photo — and it fills the screen. Let go and it disappears. No clicking, no closing.

🔎 Search inside a page — Ctrl + F

Every page now has its own search, from the magnifier in the top bar or with Ctrl+F.

• It searches the page you are on and every page inside it, including photo text found by scanning.
• Results appear as a list; click one (or press Enter / Shift+Enter) to jump straight to that line, which lights up. Results on a subpage open that page with the search still running.
• This is how you search a locked page. Locked pages are deliberately kept out of the main Ctrl+K search, even their titles. Unlock the page, press Ctrl+F, and the whole notebook — the page and everything under it — is searchable. Lock it again and it disappears from search once more.

🔍 Text scanning now reads what you actually see

• Drawings and anything you draw or type on top of a photo are scanned too, not just the photo underneath. A note written with the text tool is now findable by searching.
• A small magnifier appears on a picture whose text was scanned. Click it (or Show the scanned text in the picture menu) to see exactly what was read.
• While a picture is being scanned, a little spinner shows on it.
• When nothing is found, the message says why: handwriting and very small text can't be read.

🔍 Photo scanning really works now

In 1.5.0 the text scan started before the photo was saved to the page, so most photos were never scanned. Fixed: every photo you paste, drop or pick is read right after it lands.

⚙️ New "App" tab in Settings

The desktop options moved out of the Data tab into their own Settings → App tab, where they are easy to find:

• Keep running when the window is closed
• Scan text in photos automatically
• Ask where to put a screen grab
• and the two global shortcuts, showing the keys that are actually in use

🔒 Locked pages now protect everything inside them

Until now a password protected only that one page: its subpages stayed readable, showed up in the sidebar and in search. That is fixed.

• Locking a page also encrypts every page inside it, with the same password.
• Subpages no longer appear in the sidebar tree, in search, in recent pages or in the task list while the page is locked. Opening one asks for the password.
• Unlocking the top page opens the whole tree at once; locking it again closes all of it.
• A page you create inside an open locked page is locked together with it.
• Removing the password frees the subpages too, with their contents intact.

If you already have a locked page with subpages: open it once with your password. At that moment the subpages are encrypted as well, and they disappear from the lists until the page is unlocked again.

🗂️ Tekinote stays in the tray

Closing the window no longer quits the app: Tekinote keeps running next to the clock, so Ctrl+Shift+2 and Ctrl+Alt+N still work. Click the tray icon to bring the window back, or right-click it for a screen grab, a quick note, or Quit. You can turn this off in Settings → Backup → App.

📸 Choose where a screen grab goes

After you drag a rectangle, Tekinote asks which page it should go to: the page you have open, Quick notes, a brand-new page, or any page you search for. Tick "Don't ask again" (or switch it off in Settings) to have grabs land in the open page as before.

🔍 Every photo is scanned for text

Not just screenshots — any photo you add is now read with Windows' offline OCR, so searching for a word that appears inside a picture finds the page. It can be switched off in Settings → Backup → App.

• If another program already owns Ctrl+Shift+2 or Ctrl+Alt+N, Tekinote picks a free combination instead and shows the real one in Settings → Shortcuts.

📸 Grab a piece of your screen — Ctrl + Shift + 2

Works even when Tekinote is in the background. Drag a rectangle anywhere on screen; the shot lands in the page you have open (or in Quick notes) and the drawing tools open right away, so you can circle and annotate it in seconds.

⚡ Quick note from anywhere — Ctrl + Alt + N

A small box appears in the corner of Windows. Type, press Ctrl+Enter, done — it is saved to your Quick notes page. Esc closes it.

🕓 Page history

Tekinote now keeps older versions of every page on your computer. Open Page menu → Page history, look at any earlier version and restore it with one click. Restoring is itself undoable, and password-locked pages are never included, so nothing leaves the encrypted box.

🔍 Search inside pictures

Screenshots are scanned automatically, and any photo can be scanned from the image menu (Scan the text inside). After that, searching for a word that appears in the picture finds the page. It uses Windows' own offline OCR, so nothing is uploaded.
