Usage HUD 1.3.2

Choose a tag to compare

@heathrowandrews heathrowandrews released this 15 Oct 22:41

Usage HUD 1.3.2 is a polish update: calmer health checks, plainer messages and steadier readings.

  • A calmer health check. Tools you don't use read "not set up" instead of "broken", and a fresh Codex reading no longer warns about old history.
  • Plainer messages. Old readings are marked and stop suggesting how much to use. Failed refreshes point you to the health check. Retry waits read in plain words, for VoiceOver too.
  • Steadier readings. The panel, setup and menu bar always show the same numbers, and Claude keeps reading through cooldowns.
  • Safer. Error details hide secrets, and uninstalling keeps budget-guard hooks you edited.
  • Public badges. A compact number-only style, a credits view for prepaid pools, and Gemini badges that stay fresh between reads.

Developer ID signed and Apple notarized. Installed copies get it through Check for Updates.

Usage HUD 1.3.1

@heathrowandrews heathrowandrews released this 11 Oct 23:47

Usage HUD 1.3.1 makes it clearer what's happening when a reading can't refresh, and makes help easy to find.

  • Claude cooldowns explained. When Claude temporarily limits usage checks, Usage HUD says so plainly, keeps retrying on its own, and tells you not to sign in again or rerun setup.
  • Old readings never tell you to use more. If a reading is old, the panel shows its age and stops suggesting how much you can use today.
  • Help is visible. A new Help pane runs a health check, checks for updates and builds a private support report you choose to send.
  • Setup results are clearer, with fewer false warnings during onboarding.

@heathrowandrews heathrowandrews released this 04 Oct 22:33

Usage HUD 1.3.0 is free, universal (Apple silicon and Intel), and installs from a disk image or one terminal line.

What's new since 1.2.0

  • First run sets itself up: open the app, it finds your coding tools and takes the first reading. No terminal, no Node or Python needed for Claude and Codex.
  • Agent-first: usage-hud setup and usage-hud detect let any coding agent finish setup for you. A read-only MCP server and a copy-paste prompt in Settings connect Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI and Cursor.
  • Activity window: which project and model is burning right now, with API value (what the tokens would cost pay-per-use; you are not billed).
  • Plans: what you pay per month next to the API value of your usage.
  • Updates install themselves (Sparkle), with Check for Updates in the right-click menu.
  • Login item shows as Usage HUD, app icon, move-to-Applications, tabbed Settings.
  • Fixes: a weekly bar stuck at the old number after a mid-window reset; the doctor no longer reports a healthy app as missing.

Install

  • Disk image: open UsageHUD.dmg, drag Usage HUD to Applications, open it.
  • Terminal: curl -fsSL https://hud.thaliabloom.com/install.sh | bash

@thaliabloomdev thaliabloomdev released this 01 Oct 06:25

Usage HUD is now free.

New in 1.2.0

  • Which tool now? When one subscription runs hot, the verdict names another with room: "Claude: running hot" with "Codex has room · 22% used" under it.
  • No Node.js needed for Claude or Codex. The app reads both itself. Gemini and Grok lanes still use Node.js 18+.
  • The verdict agrees with the lanes. It no longer says GO beside a lane that is running hot, and it names the lane it is about.
  • Redesigned panel: dark graphite glass, one grid for every lane, reset date always visible, a reset bell on each lane.
  • Lighter: idle CPU is down from periodic 30–50% spikes to about 1%.
  • Clean first run: the doctor no longer reports a missing setup as a failure, and tools you don't have stay quiet.
  • Ships as Usage HUD.app.

Install: download UsageHUD.zip, unzip, move Usage HUD to Applications, open it, click Set up. Apple silicon, macOS 14+. Signed and notarized by Apple.

@heathrowandrews heathrowandrews released this 14 Sep 04:17

Usage HUD 1.0.0 for Apple silicon Macs (macOS 14+).

Buy and download: https://hud.thaliabloom.com ($9 launch price through 30 Sep 2026, then $15). Notarized zip, Developer ID Heathrow Andrews.

This is a native menu-bar meter for Claude Code, Codex, Gemini, Grok, and Ollama usage windows. Every number has a confidence label and a doctor command. Local only: no account, no telemetry.

If CodexBar already works for you, you do not need this. The paid product is the trust labels and the doctor, not coverage.
