Installation

Requirements

• NVIDIA Jetson Linux 39.2.1
• NVIDIA JetPack 7.2.1-b49
• Running kernel 6.8.12-1021-tegra
• AArch64 Jetson device
• Matching nvidia-l4t-kernel-headers
• Internet access for the NVIDIA source download
• Approximately 700 MB of temporary disk space

The validated hardware is the Seeed Studio NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin 32GB H01.

Confirm the kernel:

uname -r

Install build tools:

sudo apt update
sudo apt install build-essential curl

Clone and install:

git clone https://github.com/ThatOneGuyGreggers/jetson-uinput-module.git
cd jetson-uinput-module
./scripts/install.sh

The script downloads NVIDIA's public source archive, validates checksums, extracts the two required input-driver files, builds uinput.ko, installs it, and loads it. It also adds the current account to the input group.

Log out and back in after installation to refresh supplementary groups.

Offline or cached source

The source archive is large. Reuse an existing verified download with:

NVIDIA_SOURCE_ARCHIVE=/path/to/public_sources.tbz2 ./scripts/install.sh

Files installed

/etc/modules-load.d/uinput.conf
/etc/udev/rules.d/70-uinput-access.rules

The script does not alter /boot/Image, initramfs, DTBs, or /boot/extlinux/extlinux.conf.

Expected highlights:

[ok] uinput resolves through modprobe
[ok] uinput module is loaded
[ok] /dev/uinput is a character device
[ok] /dev/uinput is readable
[ok] /dev/uinput is writable
