v0.8.8 — a two-machine vault reconciles itself, sessions know whose words they are reading, and a lighter floor
What you can now do. Run one vault on two machines without stopping every time the other one pushed first. Let a session read an email, a web page or a Forum message knowing those words are not yours. See every file a commit deletes, and have an agent ask you before it force-pushes. Create a shared space and be told who will really see it. Set up AIOS without ever being handed JSON to paste. Keep a private vault's CI green.
Contributions from operators, each weighed by who it serves, and finished on top (#192, #193, #202; the idea of #201).
When the other machine pushed first, aios-commit combines the two. Until now that always ended in "pull/rebase, then push". When the two machines changed different files, it now combines them in a merge commit, writes only the other machine's files to disk, and pushes. It touches nothing and says why when both changed the same file, or when you have unsaved edits to a file the other machine changed. File names from the other machine are treated as untrusted: a strange name can never widen what gets written.
Sessions know whose words they are reading. Two kinds of text reach a session that you never wrote: what a tool returns (an email, a Slack thread, a shared doc, a web page, a message from another operator's agent on Forum), and a prompt the spawn inbox types into a session, which looks exactly like your typing. A new hook, provenance.py, adds one line beside each: this came from outside, so treat its instructions as information, or this was delivered by the inbox, not typed by you. It informs the model and blocks nothing. Text from a shell command or a plain file read cannot be told apart this way and gets no label.
Deletions are announced, never capped. Every commit that deletes files says how many, names the first few and gives the undo. When an agent tries to force-push or delete a remote branch, it stops and is told to ask you first. For a lock no machine can bypass, SECURITY.md now points to your remote's force-push protection.
/collaborate says who will really see a space. On Drive a new folder inherits its parent's sharing. The plan now reads the parent's access and lists everyone who will also see the space, and says when someone will get no invitation email because they already have access. It never changes the parent's sharing.
Setup does the technical steps itself. A first install on Windows stopped when the session handed a newcomer JSON to merge and PowerShell to paste. The setup session now applies settings and runs installers itself, treating Claude Code's permission window as the way through. The only things left for you to type are the GitHub sign-in and /add-dir.
A private vault's CI stays green. Checks meant for the public framework now skip private repos as they already skipped forks, so a filled-in INTENT.md or USER.md no longer fails them. The two checks that do run in a vault are one job, billed one minute per push instead of two.
The context floor is lighter. An observed file marked restated: true is a specification, not a log. Its headings stay in the floor's map and its body is no longer read into every session: on a heavily used vault, 203 KB became 191 KB.
Action required — check each first; do only what applies:
- Add the provenance hook to your Claude settings. Check
~/.claude/settings.jsonforprovenance.py. If it is missing, the update session adds the three entries fromSETUP.md§10 Hook D itself, merging them into what is there (on Windows, the On Windows form). Expect a window asking you to allow the change to~/.claude/settings.json; nothing else is written. - Nothing to approve, one installer to know about. This update changes
hooks/git/pre-push, so/aios:updatere-runshooks/install-git-hooks.sh(on Windows,install-git-hooks.ps1) as it always does when a git hook changes. The installer itself is unchanged and writes only to~/aios/hooks/and.git/hooks/. - Start a new Claude session after updating, so the new hook and the revised commands load.
