Hacktoberfest 2026: 7-Day DevOps Contribution Challenge
Timeline: October 1-7, 2026 (kickoff week of Hacktoberfest)
Goal: Onboard new contributors with a structured 7-day challenge. Each day has a simple task (5-15 minutes, no coding required).
7-Day Challenge
Day 1: Add Yourself
Add your profile to the DevOps Engineers Directory on the site. Submit a JSON file with your name, bio, skills, links, and optional "available for hire" flag.
- You get: a profile page on devops-daily.com/engineers + backlink to your site
- Bonus: Follow @thedevopsdaily on X/LinkedIn and share your "I joined" post tagging us
Day 2: Add Your Favorite Tool
Add a DevOps tool you love to the Toolbox page. Name, description, link, category.
Day 3: Fix Something
Find and fix a typo, broken link, or formatting issue in any existing post or guide. Pre-labeled `good-first-issue` issues available.
Day 4: Add Quiz Questions
Add 3 questions to an existing quiz. JSON format, multiple choice with explanations.
Day 5: Add Flashcards
Add 5 flashcards to an existing flashcard set. Front/back format in JSON.
Day 6: Share a Tip
Add a practical "tip" or "gotcha" to an existing blog post or guide. Something you learned the hard way.
Day 7: Share Your Stack
Write a short markdown profile of your DevOps setup/stack - what tools you use, how they fit together, and why.
Social Media Integration
- Registration: Star the repo + follow on at least one social platform (X, LinkedIn, Instagram)
- Daily sharing: Share your PR on social media with #Hacktoberfest #DevOpsDaily - contributors promote us organically while getting visibility on their own profiles
- Newsletter: Subscribe to get daily challenge reminders
- Leaderboard: Bonus points for social shares (tracked via hashtag)
