BFE — standalone, sideload-only Android file manager & explorer with native archive / GOG-installer extraction (lifted from Bannerlator's in-app File Manager). GPL-3.0.

✨ New in 0.4 — one toolbar, per-pane control

  • Single shared toolbar. Dual-pane no longer stacks two cramped toolbars across the top. There's now one full-width toolbar (up/back, drive, New Folder, view, search, sort, favorites, split toggle) that controls the active pane — tap a pane to focus it and the toolbar follows.
  • View mode & sort are now per-pane. Changing view or sort affects only the active pane, so the two sides can differ — e.g. left in Compact, right in List. (No more both-panes-change.)
  • Each pane keeps its own path/free-space bar + file list; active pane is accent-highlighted.

Everything else

  • Dual-pane commander: independent panes, Copy → / Move → into the other pane, extract-into-the-other-pane by default.
  • Browse + drive/path bar + storage-root switcher; sort (name/size/date/type); search; Grid / List / Compact views (per pane); multi-select copy/cut/delete/share; copy/move/delete/rename with progress + conflict resolution + cancel; new folder; favorites; properties + read-only; show/hide hidden; thumbnails + .exe icon extraction.
  • Full extraction stack: 7z / zip / rar / iso, InnoSetup & GOG (auto DLC batch), FreeArc/ISDone — with a minimizable progress pill.
  • Open with, Install APK, Share, and BFE as an OS "Open with" / Share target.

Requirements

  • Android 8.0+ (API 26), arm64-v8a only. Grant All-files access on first run.

Install

Sideload BFE-0.4.apk (allow "install unknown apps" if prompted). Separate app (com.the412banner.bfe).

Signing & integrity

  • Test key (CN=BFE Test), APK Signature Scheme v1 + v2 + v3 (verified). Not a Play/production key.

Known limitations

  • Dual-pane split is fixed 50/50 (no drag-resize yet); compact row is ~2× denser (readability floor); breadcrumb is drive-chip + path bar; errors via toasts; no predictive-back animation (targetSdk 28).
  • Status: build-verified + CI-green + signature-verified — not yet device-proven.
