Bannerlator 2.1

Run Windows apps and games on Android — no PC and no root required.

2.1 is a smoothness & polish release. The headline is VRR / refresh-rate matching — your screen's refresh rate can now follow your in-game frame rate for smoother, less-torn, lower-power gameplay — joined by a new NIS upscaler and a debanding pass on the Vulkan compositor, plus two notable fixes: the in-game Task Manager now works on the Vulkan renderer, and the install progress bar no longer hangs at 98%.

✨ What's New

🏎️ Match refresh rate to FPS (VRR) — new

Your display's refresh rate can now track your frame rate instead of staying locked at the panel's maximum:

  • Auto (match FPS) — one toggle that drives the panel refresh to follow whatever the game is running at (and your FPS cap).
  • Manual refresh-rate slider — pin a fixed rate that snaps to your panel's supported modes: Off / 60 / 90 / 120 / 144 Hz, with a live readout of the rate the display actually settled on.
  • Available in both the in-game drawer and the container settings editor; greys out automatically on displays without variable-refresh support.
  • Works across all three host renderers — Vulkan, OpenGL, and SurfaceFlinger.

The payoff: smoother motion, less tearing, and lower power draw whenever a game runs below your panel's max refresh.

🎮 Handheld note (AYANEO / AYASpace and similar): set the system Refresh Rate to Auto in the device's own settings so the app is allowed to drive the panel — a fixed system rate will override it.

🟩 NIS upscaler — new scaling mode

NVIDIA Image Scaling (NVScaler) joins SGSR and FSR in the in-game Scaling mode picker on the Vulkan renderer — a single-pass, aspect-fit upscaler with its own sharpness slider, for another option when a game renders below display resolution.

🎨 Debanding — smoother gradients

A new debanding pass on the Vulkan compositor dithers away the visible "stripes" in smooth gradients, skies, and dark scenes on 8-bit output. Switch it on with an adjustable strength slider; it runs as the very last step before the image reaches the screen, with no meaningful performance cost.

🩹 In-game Task Manager fixed on Vulkan / ASR

The in-game drawer's Task Manager — End Process and Bring to Front — was dead on the default Vulkan renderer (and the SurfaceFlinger / ASR path) and only worked on OpenGL. Both actions now work on every renderer, so you can kill a hung game from the drawer again.

🩹 Install progress no longer hangs at 98%

On a fresh first-launch setup — and on Settings → Reinstall ImageFS — the progress bar used to freeze at 98% while the Proceed button was already showing, leaving people unsure whether to keep waiting. It now correctly reaches 100% / Installation complete at the true end of setup.

🧪 Updated AIO Graphics Test (v1.6.1)

New containers ship with AIO Graphics Test v1.6.1, adding dedicated banding and scaling test scenes for checking the debander and the upscalers on your own device.

ℹ️ Updating in-app? The standard APK update covers everything in this release. NIS is NVIDIA's open-source Image Scaling (MIT); debanding uses a terminal dither pass before the 8-bit swapchain; VRR votes the display refresh rate through Android's Surface.setFrameRate / SurfaceControl APIs.

💬 New: Ask the AI about Bannerlator

You can now ask questions about how Bannerlator works directly on GitHub — an AI reads the actual source code and answers with file references. Just open a new issue and you'll get a reply within a couple of minutes. (This is a repo/community feature; it isn't part of the app.)

🙏 Thanks to everyone who reported the Task Manager and install-progress issues.
