VT7Pty 0.5.0 is the first baseline release of the WinPTY-derived, user-mode console backend for x64 Windows 7 SP1 and later. It establishes the maintained native build, diagnostics, tests, and manual release foundation for future application-fidelity work and eventual VT7 integration.

The inherited native implementation now builds with Visual Studio 2022, MSBuild, and C++20. This release removes the Unix adapter, obsolete build and packaging paths, and XP/Vista compatibility code. The DLL, agent, public headers, 19 exported C functions, diagnostics, and client-agent handshake carry VT7Pty identity. The public C API is 1.0; the internal protocol is 1.

The exact 0.5.0 package passed 30/30 tests and the full 120-minute soak on each of three Windows 7 SP1 x64 acceptance machines: non-ESU, ESU, and a PowerShell 2.0 installation without KB3191566. The automated release review passed with no failures. Read the acceptance record.

Download VT7Pty-0.5.0-win7-x64-release-runtime.zip to run the backend. The development ZIP provides the public headers and import library; the symbols ZIP provides matching PDBs; the tests ZIP contains the self-contained Windows 7 acceptance suite. The release-set JSON records package and build identity. Verify downloaded files against the attached .sha256 file.

Source commit: cbd17727b3c8af21e5afd4499b8dca7d2140ed9d. The tag v0.5.0 points to that exact clean build commit.

The 0.5.x line is pre-stable. VT7Pty 0.5.0 does not provide WinPTY ABI compatibility, a ConPTY API or driver replacement, or VT7 integration. SSH and full-screen application fidelity remain Milestone 1 work. Windows XP, Vista, and x86 are outside the maintained target.

See the changelog, compatibility contract, and credits. VT7Pty is an independent project built on WinPTY by Ryan Prichard and its contributors; Microsoft's Console, ConPTY, and Windows Terminal work informs its direction.
