Some discs may contain multiple movie titles. This is common for budget collection releases, especially for older films and topical collections (genre, actor, director, etc.) I believe TDDB does not support entering a disc that is not identified by a single movie title.
Describe the solution you'd like
I think the most natural solution is to expand the definition of "box set" to be "collection" more generally. Support should be added for importing a disc that exists outside the context of any single title. Titles can reference tracks on the disc, but the disc should not belong to any title release. If the disc belongs to any release, it should be a collection release.
Describe alternatives you've considered
Perhaps it is possible to import the same disc twice, once under each title. I'm not sure if this is possible now with disc hash checking. If this were possible, then I guess the multi-feature disc could be represented as a single-disc boxset but represented as an individual disc for each title. This is not ideal as it is not consistent with reality and requires some kludging.

MusicBrainz handles this nicely, where a database consists of discs and a separate database of releases. The tracks on the discs map to releases of titles. In this sense, the discs and the releases have a connection to each other but not a strictly hierarchical possessive relationship.
